Why are GIRL'S BIKES so vile and boys' bikes so cool? Frustrated!

Wanted to buy dd her first bike for Christmas. She's 3.5 so probably needs a 12".

Her older brother has a cool one with red, orange and yellow flames on the side which means, of course, it goes super fast.

Maybe it's imo, but girls' bikes are so revoltingly twee

O wise MNers, please recommend a girl's bike doesn't have streamers and a rear dolly seat.

Actually, we'd just settle for one that's not got white wheels!

Both of my girls have Puky bikes. My dd1's bike is blue and yellow and she was very pleased with it until she saw her best friend's bike which is pink with all the trimmings. But I did manage to convince my dd1 that at least she could ride her bike whereas her friend's bike still had stabilizers.

My 3yr old DD has a graphite and red islabike - we plan to hand it down to her brother!

i would second islabikes - even the flyer they send you specifically says "no streamers"!

also i wouldn't be so sure it will be a 12" - islabikes recommend a 14" at that age - it basically will depend on her height (and leg length).

this isn't as bad as some.

Or you could just ignore the gender labels and buy her a 'cool' bike. One of DDs friends was very proud of hers as it had a water bottle holder instead of a dolly seat.

Both the Puky and Isla bikes look great, exactly what we're after thank you bigTillyMint Belgo & ChewyToffeeMum. They're more than what we wanted to spend on a first bike, but definitely what we envisioned.

Thanks for the heads up on bike sizes MrCSWS. I remember that ds started on a 14" or 16" but dd is a dinky tough nut but will take her in-store to try some out just to make sure.

Yes GrimmaTheGnome, glad that you too thought that one was the least offensive out of all of them. But I still don't get why they have impractical white wheels.

ridgeback expensive but fab bikes. Pink but no frills.....best of both worlds. If you can push for bigger bike will last for ages....

I'd just buy her one of the cool 'boys' bikes. I had a Batman bike and absolutely loved it

Wow thanks jazzandh for finding that, that's exactly the kind of thing we're after.

Cakeywakey, lockets and others who suggested we get a boy's bike, that's what we'd really resolved to do.

Am going to find the nicest boy's one for dd and then compare with the more expensive girl's ones that MNers have kindly linked. But either way, dd will have a non frilly first bike for Christmas Thank you.
