Stocking fillers for an uninterested 6yo!!

I have always loved doing stockings and also had one as a little girl, but I can't think of things to put in ds1's this year...usually I get little silly things that just get abandoned in favour of the big present, litter the carpet for a few months then get binned.

Has anyone got any good idea for a 6yo boy's stocking, that I could pinch?

(I have to do him a stocking. It is something I can't not do!!)

Btw have already indulgently got him a lego advent calendar, which has some tiny lego thing every day - so not tiny bits of lego, probably!

last year I got light-up balloons (5 in a pack for a few quid) from tesco and put a couple in both of the ds's pillowcases. They both (6 and nearly 3 at the time) liked them.

Also pack of glow-sticks.

Also wrapped up new toothbrush each last year.

I tend to stick to very cheap or useful things, or smaller toys/games which I think well be liked.
It is more about the unwrapping really!

Top-trumps or one of the trading card games?
Go-Go's.
Annual.

Have got an electronic money counting jar from play for £5 this year.
Small build-your-own airplane for a couple of quid from a local discount store.

cheap dvd? I got ones for £1 from the cereal promotion last year, so will be on the look out for cheap ones this year.

magic flannel

felt tips

have you got hawkins bazzare (sp) near you

cheekysealion · 25/10/2009 16:44

they do the polystrene aeroplanes for 50p

and they also sell jokes that my dd age 6 loves - the nail through the finger is always a winner.. and probably the only stocking filler that has made it nearly a whole year!!!

Frrrightattendant · 25/10/2009 16:51

Yes have got a Hawkins. I like the flannel/toothbrush useful stuff idea.

He would LOVE some tricks so that is an inspiration, thankyou!

TeamAlesha · 25/10/2009 18:39

The mirror are giving away free lego this week. They make great stocking fillers

Frrrightattendant · 25/10/2009 18:49

Thanks all, Mario that's an Obaby three wheeler, is it the right link?

Not certain I can bring myself to buy the mirror but will have a look!

Some great ideas.

This site is also great for stocking fillers (has a fantastic range) - I have used them a few times. Reasonable P+P too.

ATortoiseisBetterThanABlackCat · 26/10/2009 15:25

I was going to suggest the astronaut ice cream. My DS1 loved it last year.

stealthsquiggle · 26/10/2009 15:29

Things like biscuits, glow sticks, etc which get 'used up' so that you don't have to bin them through lack of use

"necessities" like (silly) socks, new toothbrush, pens/pencils (maybe with name on?)

Sandy22 · 26/10/2009 20:55

I cheated this year and bought a filled stocking from Hawkins Bazaar - just pull the stocking out of the box and hang straight up

teamcullen · 26/10/2009 22:34

Im going to put some of their favorite foods in this year

DD- Nutella
DS1- box of crunchy nut cornflakes
DS2- havent decided but maybe coco pops because I will never let him have them normally

NorbertDentressangle · 27/10/2009 11:54

Someone on here once suggested a variety pack of cereals.
