Making Christmas pudding for the first time....alcohol or no?

Have pretty much decided to go with the Rachel Allen recipe (although am open to suggestions for alternatives) but she uses Scotch Whiskey which I don't have any of cause I'm not all that keen on it.

I do however, have masses of Jack Daniels which I love!

Am torn between ditching the alcohol altogether (I'm pregnant and due to have a baby the week before Christmas so will be hopefully breastfeeding and DS, who is 2, will be eating some too) and replacing the Scotch with Jack Daniels in the hope that the alcohol will burn off as it cooks.

What do you think?

Yes, the alcohol will burn off as it cooks. Even if you keep 'feeding' it in the run up to Christmas, it will still burn off during re-heating.

And replacing the Scotch with JD...?

TheBlairSnitchProject · 19/10/2009 17:11

I don't drink tea as the smell makes me wretch.

My mum makes fruitcake with tea - it's lovely. Brandy is better though!

TheBlairSnitchProject · 19/10/2009 17:23

Fruitcake is already made. Used Apple juice.

The Pudding is next...

Yes, booze. Delia's suggests barley wine and stout. I just use stout.

TheBlairSnitchProject · 20/10/2009 08:38

Stout doesn't appeal for some reason.

Ooh, I'm confused, one little pudding, so many options!!!

Alcohol definitely.
