Wooden would always be my first choice if I can afford it! Plastic stuff looks too babyish too quick I think.

not seen the Hamleys one, but ds1 had the LP one for xmas when he was 15mo and the Plan City (brio) one with road track the next xmas (inlaws brought it - having been pissed off that my parents had already brought the LP one the year before when they wanted to get it).

The LP one was used alot more and for alot longer than the wooden one, despite the wooden one linking up with the brio train track.

Thank you for the advice, i will look at them closely when i go to get one of them

Wooden is nice for the parents. Looks pretty in the playroom. Plastic is more durable, more colourful and tends to have more detail and is therefore generally better for the children. Plus with LP you can get different sets to add to your LP world.

Haven't seen either but learnt from experience that wooden stuff didn't get as much use.

We went for the ELC garage for the DSs and it gets a lot of use.

how much is the hamleys one and is it their own brand? if it is another make find it elsewhere, they charge £££ more than everywhere else for their toys. i did all of dd xmas shopping in hamleys for her 1st xmas, ended up taking it all back and buying all of the same stuff from other shops and saved almost £200. hamleys is a rip off.
if you want a wooden one le toy van is a nice make, dd has a the dolls house and hospital, she plays with it loads and it has lasted well.

duckyfuzz · 16/10/2009 21:05

wooden, my DTs still play with a wooden set my parents got them second hand 4 years ago

griffindor · 16/10/2009 21:17

The wooden one is coloured, its £65, LP fisher price one is £30, big price difference which is why iam struggling

nancy75 · 16/10/2009 21:20

is it hamleys own brand?

GhoulsAreLoud · 16/10/2009 21:22

My DD got given a little people zoo for her first birthday and is drawn to it like a magnet. She whines when she sees the box - we bought some more LP stuff half price in tesco last weekend for xmas and she whined when she saw it in the car.

She's not that keen on her wooden bricks and things though.

Kids love bright plastic tat! The price alone would sway me - tesco have the LP petting zoo and carwash half price at the mo so you could buy one of those as well as the train set and it would cost you less than the hamleys one.

GhoulsAreLoud · 16/10/2009 21:23

Sorry, buy one of those as well as the garage. Or buy both of those instead of the garage for £40? (they were originally £20 each)

midnightexpress · 16/10/2009 21:23

I love wooden stuff, but we got a wooden garage for the DSs and it fell apart so many times that eventually I binned it and am about to buy a gloriously plastic ELC one for ds1's birthday. Am afraid I agree that the children much prefer the plastic bollox to the tasteful wooden stuff, sadly.

GhoulsAreLoud · 16/10/2009 21:28

half price petting zoo

bitofadramaqueen · 17/10/2009 10:10

Saw that the LP fisher price garage is on offer at woolworths.co.uk - not sure what their delivery charges are but worth a look.

MrsJiggle86 · 17/10/2009 15:08
