So Father Christmas is taking dd's bottle tonight. Where can he find a nice cup with his face on to replace it?

What a good plan - he's a useful chap, that FC. Can't help re cup, sorry, but am wishing FC had helped us out like that years ago

hmmm well I'm not overly confident it'll be easy - much the same as the rest of this parenting lark!

Pound-shops?
Supermarket?
Can she go to sleep without it? (Can she actually drink from a cup?) Only that I tried this idea (with faairies and a v entusiastic dd, only to have her distraught because she didn't know how to go to sleep. cue feeling-like-a-crap-mummy and some wildly imaginative backtracking... see other thread)

But hopefully all will be well! we transitioned dd a couple of months ago to cup (friend cme over who used her bottle so she used the NUK cup - that i had bought for her baby brother) and it was no problem at allm .

Sorry, I meant I tried this idea with dd's dummies. Bottle/cup was no probs.

You can at least try the cup and then leave the bottle (so if it's a failure - tryagain in a week, month).

just returned from tesco - no joy. Will give it a go with existing cup which she happily drinks water from. Have tried giving bedtime milk from it before, a few months ago, but she wasn't happy so I figured I'd try again with the aid of Father Christmas.
I think I'll leave her bottle out at night then have a nice cup of warm milk ready next to her presents (because obviously that will be far more exciting than all the toys )

thanks all.

We're doing this (though I hadn't actually thought of FC taking the cup away - what a brilliant idea) and I got a cup from a tacky gift shop (Think Pink in Bromley, if you're anywhere near there) that has liquid in the bottom with pink glitter and sequins and stuff swirling around in it. It's horrible, but I thought it looked suitably 'magic'.

any new cup wrapped up from santa left on the fireplace or near her toys would prob made her happy anyway, its a great idea we r doing it with the dummies lol

good luck & happy xmas

Just a little warning! We did this with dd's (3.5) dummies years ago (she only had them at bed time) and I would say that Christmas Eve is not the best time to do this. We were shattered after a busy day visiting friends and still had wrapping and bits to do once dd was in bed. Also needed to be up early for food prep and family coming the next day. We had over 3 hours of crying, pleading and all sorts over the dummy. She was insistant that she would rather have her dummy than any presents. Afraid to say that we gave in and gave it back! We did give her her presents and we left her a little letter from Santa saying that he had a 'special' present that he would give her next year if she no longer had dummies then.

However, I have heard that it works for some so Good Luck

good point! In that case I think maybe let her drink from it then put it out for FC.

you could always put some christmassy stickers on it..?

Santa took our boys' dummies with no ill effects for either.. they were much more impressed with all the pressies they had instead. I think ds1 asked for his once, & don't remember ds2 asking at all.

Good luck

Ds left his bottle out for Rudolph to give to a baby reindeer.

I think i was more upset about it than he was.

I know what you mean IB! I watched her drinking her (hopefully) last bottle of milk before bed tonight and remembered her chubby cheeks as she was BF as a baby.
Where does the time go? It seems like yesterday and now there is almost no trace of baby left...!
