We always used to leave Santa a snack and a drink (biscuit and a glass of milk) and a carrot for Rudolph. In the morning they would all be gone, which we always found extremely exciting! I think he would also leave us a note, although I don't really remember what it would say.

MadreInglese · 19/12/2008 16:37

Heaps of pressies under the tree
A half eaten mince pie and an empty glass where he's drunk his milk
When we lived in a flat with no chimney he left magic dust (glitter) near the front door where he used his magic key
At a friend's house last year he left snowy footprints (flour) round the house

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 19/12/2008 16:38

We do

flour or icing sugar foot prints,

a nibble in the carrott the kids leave out,

a note from santa to say thank you for the mince pie and milk.

Santa key is gone (it gets 'posted by santa begining of dec'

FIMBOingaroundtheChristmasTree · 19/12/2008 16:39

We do floury footprints

Try to chomp/hack away at a carrot and leave a bit to look like reindeer's teeth.

Make sure biscuit crumbs are left on a plate along with a litle bit of milk left in glass.

nailpolish · 19/12/2008 16:39

we also use different wrapping paper frio the prsents from santa but then i suppose thats a common one

Talcum powder footprints made with wellie boots and reindeer food glitter. Carrot half eaten and the wrapping from the mini roll we leave for him is left out plus the finished off glass of milk.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 19/12/2008 16:40

Surely any dc would be far too clever to fall for the icing sugar/flour snowy footprints? After all, wouldn't their first reaction be to taste it and see if it's cold?

nailpolish · 19/12/2008 16:40

the santa who comes to our house drinks guinness

do uyou do floury prints even if theres no snow outside?

Goodness Santa always leaves clues in our house.
Footprints from his big boots, teethmarks in half eaten carrot, a note and last year a little sleigh bell that looked remarkedly like one of those you get on a chocolate lindt rabbit

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 19/12/2008 16:41

My dp's would never taste anything they found on the floor as i am to anal to allow it!

FIMBOingaroundtheChristmasTree · 19/12/2008 16:41

Yes floury prints if not snow outside - he has come from the North Pole afterall

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 19/12/2008 16:42

The snow is from the North Pole or somewhere else cold that he has been before us.

FIMBOingaroundtheChristmasTree · 19/12/2008 16:42

My dc are too excited that he has "come" and eager to see their presents to think about how snow prints got there despite no snow. I always tidy it up as soon as possible too.

nailpolish · 19/12/2008 16:43

i will do the footprints this year
we went to see santa in jenners and he showed us his magic key!

I am very grateful that FC likes whiskey or brandy. I just wish that carrots didn't have to be consumed at midnight.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 19/12/2008 16:46

We don't do santa footprints, just the light refreshments!

We do have Father Christmas walking around the garden on christmas eve with his sack full of presents, waving to the children inside.

It's very magical as it starts with a twinkling light through the hedge (as he gets off his sleigh, parked out of sight), and then he gradually gets closer.

Makes the kids rush off to bed and try to get to sleep! As he is 'checking' to see if they have gone to bed yet.

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 19/12/2008 16:48

My dp tries to tell the kids that Santa really would like a can of Boddingtons rather than Milk but i am not going to encourage Santa to drink and drive so it's always Milk.

MadreInglese · 19/12/2008 16:49

LOL @ Santa with a can of boddingtons!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 19/12/2008 16:51

I'm sure Rudolf can find the way by himself if Santa is passed out in a drunken stupor in the back of the sleigh
Ours has sherry.

Gingerbear · 19/12/2008 16:51

We did floury footprints last year. Ever observant DD spotted they were fake.
'Mummy, who has put daddy's shoes in some flour and left a mess all over?'
We still leave out a carrot for rudolf and a mince pie and a glass of wine for santa.

DoubleBluff · 19/12/2008 16:52

We leave Santa a can of beer and it is always empty in the morning.
Do the bites out of the carrot
and crumbs from the mince pie!
