Buying a present just because you received one. Should I?

The girl I do work for has gave me a little something for Christmas. Should I return back. I feel as if it looks like I'm getting her just because she got me. What do you think?

It's a minefield isn't it? There is a person who always gets my dcs some sweets/chocolates and I always forget and have to rush out at the last minute to get hers something (kids are not especially good friends or anything). So this year I was prepared and had some selection boxes in - and of course she doesn't give mine anything - so now I have two selection boxes going spare...

No, I don't think you have to. So long as you thanked her nicely.

In this particular case, you mentioned you do work for her - sometimes 'employers' like to give people something but certainly don't expect it to be reciprocated.

I think if I was the giver in that sort of situation I'd be a bit embarrassed if you did then give me something, TBH.

I wouldn't say you have to buy in return. I quite often give small gifts to people who weren't expecting one but wouldn't ever expect one back or for them to go out and buy something after my gift had been given!!

ChristmasDisco · 20/12/2008 19:22

no I wouldn't buy one in return. If you got bought something because you do work for them, then they bought it as a thank you for your work for the year, i'm sure they won't be expecting you to send them something back.

nickytinseltimes · 20/12/2008 19:25

As you work fer her, I would say no.

My Mum always told me that you never give anything to your boss, so NO, don't get anything.
