I've left it really late - I always seem to leave the difficult ones to last. He is DS's god father and the only one in our group not married with children. He has the most gorgeous lovely lovely girlfriend. She is early 30s and american, he is late thirties. They live together, travel lots especially to America. They like cooking (hence last year i bought cookery books and oils etc. Any ideas for this year please? I wondered about something like a charity present???

TIA

There's a great book '1001 places to see before you die' - they could tick off places. Also, it's probably too late but there is a company that does framed maps, backed on cork and personalised so that you can put pins in where you have been and would like to go. You probably wouldn't get one now but I can link if you like.
Could do a 'travel hamper' - put in the book, wine from New Zealand, parmesan from Italy etc.

Passport wallets?

OllieWollieWoo · 18/12/2008 22:03

Paperchase do a lovley travel journal for them to keep stuff from their trips - eg where they went, pockest for tickets stubs etc, plastic wallets for postcards. Not everyone's cup of tea - but my friend loved it!

Not a new release, so check if they don't have this first (spy?), but Lonely Planet The Travel Book is great.

mckenzie · 18/12/2008 22:16

thanks for the ideas.
SniffyHock - yes please re the link if you can find it for me. I'm shopping tomorrow and will add that book to my shopping list.

Catzenobia - I bought them passport wallets year before last. Great minds think alike

OWW - thanks for the idea but I'm not sure that would be their cup of tea.

thanks Sniffyhock. I'm hoping to get the book tomorrow as something to wrap and give and then follow up with the map in the new year.

if charity present doesn't quite do it, how about:

olive tree
lemon tree
grow-your-own mushroom kit
tickets for wine tasting

a lovely framed print of their area where they live
tickets for something

DVD set eg planet earth or similar nature type thing

mckenzie · 18/12/2008 22:47

thanks iheartdusty. Some great present ideas there

I travel loads, and have been secretly hoping someone will buy me digital luggage scales. Something likethis

Cocobear · 18/12/2008 22:55

I meant to say something like that, but digital. Ya know. More gadgety.

mckenzie · 18/12/2008 22:56

Thank you. I saw one of those in my local department store cocobear so i shall get one to go with the book. Hope you get one too.

I have very similar couple to buy for - got a mushroom-growing kit and rare print. (great minds/Guardian readers, Dusty?)

iheartdusty · 18/12/2008 22:58

I confess to being Guardian reader, but not recently - I only get one on commuter days - so have missed any gift recommendations! there must be something in the blood though...

Cocobear · 18/12/2008 23:01

Just noticed a Guardian reader offer for the scales. Maybe you should just get them a copy of the Guardian?? There seems to be a trend.

LooptheLoop · 18/12/2008 23:21

Potted herbs? Bay tree? On a gardening and cooking theme here!

Token for theatre tickets (think you can buy them in WH Smiths.
