Husband has been out all day trying to find DS2 a new bike, he was due to inherit DS1's old bike but it is a total wreck. We live in the North West but even the likes of Charnock Richard Cycles have sold out.

DH is off work again tomorrow, could travel as far as Birmingham etc if anyone has any tip offs!

Lubyloo · 18/12/2008 21:13

Where in Northwest are you? There is Evans cycles on Deansgate and at the Chill Factor in Trafford. Loads of small independent shops round this way too.

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 18/12/2008 21:14

If you are anywhere near Wigan, try here

MaryBeWaiting · 18/12/2008 21:16

I would recommend Halfords - Halfords put the bike together for you. Toys R Us give you a bike you have to assemble for yourself (unless you're lucky)

Habbibu · 18/12/2008 21:17

Amazon?

Habbibu · 18/12/2008 21:18

Ah - sorry - no 18" bikes there.

Habbibu · 18/12/2008 21:19

Phone some of the shops on this list?

Habbibu · 18/12/2008 21:22

Or you could try islabikes? Wed was their last guaranteed date for Christmas delivery, but I ordered one on Mon and got it on Tuesday! Pretty good service from Wolverhampton to Fife.

Manchester and Liverpool have got to be good bets for you if you're in Lancs, though.

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 18/12/2008 21:26

Have just had a look and if you click on the bike you like, it tells you how many are in stock

MaryBeWaiting · 18/12/2008 21:26

I don't know if Sterling House will deliver in time for Christmas, but they have 18" boys bikes:

OOOhhhh Ho Ho Ho

Thank you all so much, lots of clues to go on there. That should keep him occupied tomorrow.

Plonker, We are in Cheshire but I know Wigan very well as I was born in Abram! DH went up to Winstanley's Cycles today and got stuck in the traffic at Pemberton only to find they had moved.

Habbibu Wow that was good delivery!

Waves to Mary, not long to go now love!

If in Cheshire there is in North West Mountain bike centre in Cheadle, Rick's cycles in Wilmslow, Bike Shak in Altrincham.

seringoutthosebellstonight · 18/12/2008 21:53

Thanks Lubyloo.

That shop is in Pemberton! - its not far from Winstanlys pram shop if you know that, just before you get to it along Omskirk road.

seringoutthosebellstonight · 18/12/2008 22:10

He must have driven past it [Fshock]

Sterling house (as mentioned earlier) guarantee delivery on all orders placed before 22 Dec

Habbibu · 19/12/2008 17:33

Did you get one, then?

prettybirdinapeartree · 19/12/2008 17:39

Islabikes are brilliant - we got ds' bike from them last year. Not cheap but a great bike. I orderede after their last date for delivery to Scotland (se hwas very honest about that), so I was all set with a story about how the elves had lost the CD with our address on it - but she got it to us a few days before Christmas anyway.

seringoutthosebellstonight · 19/12/2008 20:03

Hi everyone, DH got a falcon bike from the shop in Orrell, Wigan, which Plonker recommended yesterday. They had loads in stock. I am very envious of your gorgeous Isla bike Habbibu, (and v. v. envious of where it will be ridden!) but our budget wouldn't stretch to that!

OP posts:
Habbibu · 19/12/2008 20:33

Hmm - well mine's only stretching to it after having seen their resale value on ebay! Glad you got a bike - bet ds2 will be over the moon.

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 19/12/2008 20:52

Glad you got sorted

I've had a couple of bikes for dd's from there and have always found customer service to be great!
