I don't like santa sacks (no idea why) but the little knitted sock I got for dd last year will prob be too small, also haven't got one for ds...

When I was little we had an actual stocking (well half of a pair of 40 denier tights ) which was veerrrrry stretchy

what do your dc get their gifts in?

Very stretchy and long red skiing socks

MrsBadger · 18/12/2008 15:26

dd has one with a decapitated reindeer head looking out the top

tis freaky but she loves it...

DH always tells the story of his childhood stocking, which was made out of one leg of a pair of red corduroy trousers belonging to his uncle.

Pinkjennybellrock · 18/12/2008 15:28

DD has a pink sack with Minnie Mouse on and her name on it.

I love it. When she gets to about 10 she'll probably think it's pathetic.

But I'll still love it.

GentleOtter · 18/12/2008 15:29

Two Tesco basic big fat red socks for the younger children and I may as well put an infant sock out for myself as dh and big son have not bothered again.

PinkPoinsettias · 18/12/2008 15:42

a huge big stocking that i got in penneys that has lots of chunky things like snowmen stuck to it.

i keep intending to make them a stocking each but by the time i remember each year i can't get hold of nice christmassy material anywhere i look so i put it off til january and then promptly forget

My dc have 3 red ones (about 3 years old) from Ikea not too big and not small.

sagacious · 18/12/2008 20:37

fishnet
but the presents fall out

PortAndStilton · 18/12/2008 20:54

I've got fairly large stockings with their names on, knitted by a lovely woman on eBay (she did DS's and fortunately was still doing them this year). DH and I don't have them (although my mother does, somewhere, still have a stocking she made for me with my name on, and a picture of Bambi)

ChasingSquirrels · 18/12/2008 20:54

pillow case

Umlellala · 18/12/2008 21:43

Now why does the pillow case appeal? (Been rea\ding your other thread) Think it's the magical out of something ordinary

lol - our pillow cases are v v ordinary!
As a child I never thought about it, we always had pillow cases, I assumed everyone else did.
As as adult I have had a few [hum] looks when I mention pillow cases - but then I don't think I overspend on my kids at all, just that everything, from others aswell, goes in it.

What I find wierder is that as a child we used to visit relatives on xmas eve and exchange presents, these presents and those that came in the post - that I would see ariving and we would unwrap the other packaging - would all find their way in to the pillow case along with the FC bits. And I never questioned this.

Umlellala · 18/12/2008 21:53

I questioned everything (that's funny mummy, fc has the same wrapping paper as you...)- but still believed! Love how family traditions are held so dear.

Christmas was the one time in the year where we were spoilt - our stockings really bulged with bits. Though my parents wrapped EVERYTHING - a pen, two hairbands round a toilet roll tube... great fun.

See non-stretchy stockings are fine but I guess you have to buy small things - I mean size-wise not money. A colouring book for example. Though my parents often used to put some FC presents under tree too (with their/relative's pressies)

DD has a red velvet stocking with white decoration of some description; it came from John Lewis. When I was a kid my brother and I had RN-issue laundry bags, bigger than pillowcases, fantastic!

themulledmanneredjanitor · 18/12/2008 21:54

a felt one with their names appliqued on that i made myself [smug mummy emotion]

Umlellala · 18/12/2008 21:57

Well done you!

I am meant to be making dd a pyjama bag for her new xmas eve pyjamas (cheap fairy nighties from Matalan after I realised the beautiful blue Boden! pyjamas were not going to happen)

Picked up 2 fab stocking from tescos for 3.50 each last week - I had a lovley one and then DS2 came along and I couldnt find one the same size as DS1's so thought I would get 2 the same this year if I found some nice but cheap ones!!! The Tesco's one are knitted with large red and white stripes on - really lovely!
