Should I ask my DS to give away his PS2 after Christmas??

He is 11 and was lucky enough to be given a PS2 at the beginning of this year ,he got loads of games with it and has built up a collection of second hand ones by himself .

However my Mum and Dad have out of the boue bought him and his sisters a WII .

It seems a bit too much to me for him to have two consoles and DP has already got DS two of the games he always plays on the ps2 in the WII version.

So I was thinking of asking him to pass it on to someone (either freecycle or FFP on here) and letting him go and exchange some of the newer games he had for the ps2 so he could get himself another WII game .Then bundle the rest of the games up with the ps2 to give away.

I think it would be a nice thing to do especially after someone gave it to him in the first place .

So would you do this or would you just let him keep it as an extra?

How about if he passes it on to one of his own friends?

All his friends have consoles I think ,I could ask around ,actually thinking about it I do know a single mum with 5 little boys who might want it .

I'm in a similar predicament -which thankfully has an easy answer for me.

the DS's have a PS2 and over 20 games (mostly 2nd hand - or the cheap ones you get in Morrisons etc, I've bought them a Wii for Christmas and was going to get rid of the PS2 as I know think they need 2 consoles at home - but knew that DS1 would be pretty upset about losing his games (many not available on Wii) and all his progress. Thankfully with exH and I no longer livign together, and the DS's visitng him regularly (well fortnightly) so it can go and live at his house.

On balance I would say suggest he gives it to someone else. However I notice you say it's your DS's PS2 but the Wii is for all of your DC - do you DD's play on the PS2 as well? Just thinking that if they don't it may be a little unfair to expect him to give away his PS2 when the Wii is for all of them.

So actually I think I'm not sure

I'd just keep the PS2 aswell - they are very different consoles and there are loads more games available on the PS2.

caykon · 17/12/2008 13:05

I would also keep both, wii games are very differant to ps2 even when they are the same game.
If the wii is between 3 of them then he may not always be able to play on it so I would let him keep the ps2, or at least give it a while and see how it all goes, he may decide himself he doesn't need it.

I would keep both for the same reasons as caykon.

I will give it a couple of months then ,he may actually say he wants to give it away .

I just can't see the need for two consoles he hardly has any time for the PS2 anymore ,because he is usually playing football doing his homework .

we've got both. ds still goes in his room to play on the ps2 when he wants some quiet time along. we play the wii together as a family.
