Because they do my nut in.

Me too

Mine are on the mantelpeice and stuck in a haphazard fashion in the floor-to-ceiling bookshelf, which makes it look tatty and messy (shame as it's a really nice bookshelf!)

mrsmaidamess · 16/12/2008 13:11

Mine are stuffed in a letter rack at the moment. Its the messiness of them I can't bear.

I'm thinking of choosing just the ones that match the rest of my house and do something arty farty like in a magazine.

Perhaps next year I should let all my family know what my colour scheme is so they can co -ordinate their cards with my interior.

We have some thin gift ribbon dangling between the top two corners of a big mirror and we hang them on there.

Got sick of them blowing off the mantelpiece and windowsill every time someone walked past!

mrsmaidamess · 16/12/2008 13:12

I seem to receive about half a hundred weight every year. Damn! to being so popular.

And the bloody cat keeps jumping up and knocking them all down. They are in the way of my nice scented candles too, which now cannot be lit because of said cards

I might use mine as fuel for the fire

hatwoman · 16/12/2008 13:14

I blu tac them along the top edge of the walls (blu tacked by one corner so they hang diagonally). we also have a sort of divider wooden frame between the dining bit and sitting bit of our main room (not sure if that makes sense....like a square archway....) and I blu tack them down that, and also down the side of the fireplace. I think it looks nice

mrsmaidamess · 16/12/2008 13:14

I've been mean this year and not bought those boxes of tiny cards for the kids to give to their class mates. Can't be doing with them.

They havent clocked yet that they've received loads but havent sent any.

DD1 (Reception) has sent no cards and received... 1

Are they all Eco-Warrior children or is she madly unpopular?

mrsmaidamess · 16/12/2008 13:16

Perhaps your school Christmas delivery person is as harrassed as ours and hasn't given them out. I did it one year and it took HOURS.

MincePirateCat · 16/12/2008 13:20

mine are in a neatish pile by the sink. i wil attempt to hang a bit of string up, over the back doors in the kitchen. at some point!!

notnowbernard · 16/12/2008 13:20

Does that mean she may be in receipt of 30 odd cards come Friday, having given NONE out herself?!

mrsmaidamess · 16/12/2008 13:20

Yes. Start stoking that fire

I cut strips of red crate paper and pin them to the arcitrave at the top of the room. Then I staple the cards to the crate paper diagonlly so they form part of our decorations - it looks lovely even if I do say so myself

nickytinseltimes · 16/12/2008 13:22

We have very deep window sills.

notnowbernard · 16/12/2008 13:22

Bloody Hell

Ok - do I write out 30 cards to children I do not know and make dd1 begrudgingly write her name in every one or not?

mrsmaidamess · 16/12/2008 13:23

No. No one is keeping count.

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 16/12/2008 13:24

CORRECT answer

Thank you v much

lizziemun · 16/12/2008 13:51

I stick (sellotape) onto dining room and hall doors

Furball · 16/12/2008 14:09

I have this sort of thing but mine is floor standing and just over a metre high. Keeps them all in one place and you don't get the domino effect like when they are on the windowsil or mantle

TooMuchTV · 16/12/2008 14:11

We have a large brick fireplace and dh put three pieces of red thread across it at different heights. We hang our cards on it and it is invisible when not in use (as its the same colour as the bricks) so it stays up all year to use for birthdays etc too

ChippyMyrrhton · 16/12/2008 14:11

Gold string pinned across (hideous) internal window with cards pegged or hung over it. On the bookcase (slide the back half of the card between the books so they don't fall down). Rest in a pile in the kitchen...

mrsmaidamess · 16/12/2008 14:13

But WHY do we do it?

Isn't it enough to open the card, read it, say 'Ah, how nice', then recycle them?

OP posts:
PestoHoHoHoMonster · 16/12/2008 14:15

Dh puts up that invisible fishing wire all round the living room (high up) and we string them all up on those.

mrsmaidamess · 16/12/2008 14:15

Does he pin it? I am loathed to pin into my pristine new plaster.

OP posts:
squeaver · 16/12/2008 14:16

On the mantelpiece and any spare tables.

I have a friend who puts them straight into the recycling.
