For christmas I would like software to use that I can turn my camcorder recordings into a DVD, anyone know a good package?

I don't know but it sounds like a very good idea - I think I may 'watch' your thread to see if anyone suggests anything good

You can do it any of the following ways:

  1. A DVD recorder: simply get a cable to connect your camera into the back of your dvd recorder. They all work differently, but you should be able to press 'record' on the dvd recorder while you're playing out of the camera and do a basic copy onto disk.

  2. If you have an Apple Mac you probably have iMovie already bundled with your software. Connect your camera with a firewire cable and capture the footage in iMovie, edit it as you want it, and then export to iDVD. It has some pretty good templates to use for the 'look' of your dvd menus, etc, and very simple to use.

3)If you have a PC I'm afraid I can't help you, you're on your own (or at least until someone else comes along

It's great you have the footage. I bleedin' well work as a video editor, and my dp is a producer, and almost all the video of my dd is from my mobile phone! We're so tired of working with cameras and the like all day that we keep forgetting to film our own daughter!

If you have Windows Vista, you already have Windows DVD Maker.

If you have an earlier version of Windows, you can edit the video in Windows Movie Maker and then use something like Roxio MyDVD to burn your DVD (there are freeware programs available, but if you want reasonably easy then that's a popular and still inexpensive one).

If you have a Mac then Weebump knows more than I.

We have just done number 1 of Don'tEatYellowSnow's suggestions on a DVD recorder just bought from EBay, easy to do and have given them as Christmas presents to the grandparents.
