Art set for ds (6)

Hello all

Need some help please in choosing an art set for my 6 yo ds. He saw some watercolour sets when we were out today but I'm not sure if they are too 'adult' for him, although he is very serious about his artwork.

He has millions of pencils but would like some paints now.

Many thanks!

watercolours will be great and get some nice heavyweight paper to go with it

Pastels might be good - like "posh crayons"! Or the watercolour pencils are brilliant and much easier to work with than paints.

Thank you!

Are the watercolours best in tubes or in solid form, do you think?

solid definitely! and get some really nice soft brushes.

Thank you, SEA. Merry Christmas

Sparkly, do you have a Works near you? They do watercolours, palettes (sp), brushes, nice watercolour sketch pads, and also cheap stretched canvasses? All really reasonable, not top notch high quality but totally fine for a beginner, and very professional looking!

DD1, aged 6, has a set of pastels that you can also brush water over to get a watercolour effect. She loves those.

Agree that it's worth getting really good, heavy paper to go with whatever you get.

And what about one of the Usborne art books, about paint techniques. ISTR there are some really nice ones with great ideas you can experiment with.
