Mine is rubbish, he doesn't want anything except really really expensive things. We've agreed not to buy each other big stuff this year because of various things but I know he'll go out and buy me something anyway so I have to at least impress him even if it isn't expensive.

I'm blardy stumped as usual.

Him: loves Man City (but not enough to want specific kit, memorabilia etc), scooters, nature, books, culture (esp pop culture, arthouse cinema, detective novels/scifi), gadgets (but can't afford big 'uns), history, contemporary art, music (esp Americana and New Folk currently but his tastes are scarily muso and wide). He likes kitsch daft things too (don't they all?)

He has lately been growing veg but am unwilling to give him presents that smack of turning that into an obligation (since if you tell him to do summat, he immediately refuses )

He doesn't really do blokey bloke stuff like sport (other than his beloved above), cars, women (me excepted) and conspicuous hifi etc...

What have you chosen...?

God, I can't think of anything! I'm sitting here with hundreds of tabs open hoping for inspiration. DH not like yours though, apart from the veg growing. I have the Screwfix website open

moondog · 11/12/2008 21:36

Take him somewhere.
Arrange a night at a show or a w/end away.
I got my dh a massage and facial once.He loved it and is a big strapping Welsh farm lad!

GoodWilfToAllMN · 11/12/2008 21:37

rofl at Screwfix.

...erm, I forgot to mention (in my indecent haste to make him out as a Proper Renaissance Man) to mention his tool and rawlplug addiction. Without doing any actual DIY mind. It's a bit like us and the diet books isn't it?

My Dh has tickets to see the Shaolin Monks this year! Bizarre but very cool

janeite · 11/12/2008 21:37

Vintage-style film posters, framed?

Tickets to local arthouse cinema, if you have one?

One of those knife things that rocks back and forth to cut herbs - is it a mezzeluna or something like that?

Subscription to Mojo or History Today?

GoodWilfToAllMN · 11/12/2008 21:42

Film poster - good, good.
I bought him a subscription to Uncut (think Dad-rock...) last year...
Cinema tickets. Yes. Will think. Three kids though so will have to go on his own!

He loves cooking too and cooking gadgets. But only if he buys them himself (smacks too much of the obligation thing if I do it...)

I'm getting dh the local bike sharing card.

Umlellala · 11/12/2008 21:45

Inspired by trying to think of a suggestion forsomeone else,I am hoping to make a mini-book of a few digital suggestive photos (of me )... though got to find some time to take them (and print!). Not easy with two little ones!

Also thought might buy a windowbox for herbs etc.

GoodWilfToAllMN · 11/12/2008 22:05

Oh LMAO at digital suggestive photos. He'd run away screaming.

Bike sharing card? What language is this you speak? It sounds like something you have over there in civilization...?

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 11/12/2008 22:09

Naaah goodwilf, no civilization whatsoever. It is a sad attempt to convince the Milanese to ditch their nsfkjnfkj cars. It won't last. Bikes will be stolen. It is Italy, not civilization. But I'll support the attempt.

kalo12 · 11/12/2008 22:16

home brew kit

Heathcliffscathy · 11/12/2008 22:18

ok goodwilf so how about arranging some babysitting vouchers (pay whoever it is in advance) so that you two can get out together x amount of times?

that would be a good present.

Inquisitive · 12/12/2008 14:42

Hope this isn't too late - I'm buying my dh a t-shirt from here - really cool movie t-shirts that are a bit quirky.

pigleypudding · 12/12/2008 16:48

DH as a PS3game, shirt and book... boring stuff but its what he wanted.

A little prezzie I know he will love is from DD and Me.

He recently asked me to print a photo of Me and DD to put in his wallet, which I did but he had trouble deciding which one he wanted.
I searched the net and found a little clear inset that you slide in your wallet to give you more credit card/pic slots. Only about a fiver.

I have printed out various pics of me and DH, DH with DD, me with DD etc and put them in there so he will have a mini photo album in his wallet now

Soppy i know!

MuchLessTiredNow · 12/12/2008 16:51

I got a 'sex cheque book' from some internet company one year - he got to write cheques for various things when he wanted - which was great - but did get unexpectedly pg as a result!!!!!

I don't know if this is your bag, but if you go onto Amazon, they do some great desk top calendars - I got dh one when he was away for 6 months which was making a paper aeroplane every day - which tickled him.

iheartdusty · 12/12/2008 19:40

has he got any books from Taschen?

They are widely available in bookshops, design and gift shops as well as Amazon.

loolop · 12/12/2008 19:53

I've paid for DP to go on a course of Tai Chi - he's been going on for ages he wants to learn but has never got around to it. So found a local class £32 for 10wks. Also got him from DD the play doh hairdressing set (you know the one where you turn the handle and play doh hair comes out of the head!) He loved it as a child apparently and asked me to get it for DD - told him I couldn't find it - he'll love it!!

muddleduck · 12/12/2008 22:24

a soda stream

merryberry · 12/12/2008 22:42

mine's a bit naff but will please dh...an hawaiian shirt. he kind of likes them enough, found a great one. and also bought the same one for each of our boys, intend to wrap them in each other, give him a kick to see his mini-men. i hope.

seringoutthosebellstonight · 12/12/2008 23:11

All men want the same thing for Christmas don't they? Every year.

WilfsElf · 12/12/2008 23:17

A playdoh hairdressing set, a course in Tai Chi, a hawaiian shirt, a sodastream, and a sex cheque book?

All it needs is a bottle of Tequila and we've got the perfect Xmas night in, haven't we?
