One of the three Body Shop ones (not activist) has a lovely Sandlewood smell to it - think it's the green one.

Don't know about more 'branded' ones though.

MamaHobgoblin · 11/12/2008 18:13

Crabtree & Evelyn do one called ... Sandlewood! It's delish - warm and rather sexy, if that's the way your tastes lie. I used to get DH the shaving soap.

MamaHobgoblin · 11/12/2008 18:16

SandAlwood, I mean!

NoblesseOblige · 11/12/2008 18:18

thank you - have had body shop before and is nice, but trying to shop about...any other ideas before i zoom of to crabtree website?

or any aftershave that you like really, as long as its not similar to cool water/ckone, that kind of smell. nothing against that at all, just not my dh's thing

The only aftershave I can tolerate on my DH is Pecksniff's Leather, that has a very natural aroma not sweet and synthetic like ckone etc. I get it at TKMAXX as it is £10 rather than £50 as in shop!

NoblesseOblige · 11/12/2008 18:24

hmm...think am going to have to go to an actual shop and sniff...

thanks for help - feel free to drop more suggestions as oddly enough am not off to shops right this second...

sandalwood!

sounds grim

NoblesseOblige · 11/12/2008 18:27

no is nice! he is an earthy, manly, probably slightly hippyish type.

whats the male equivalent of patchouli?

Roger et Gallet do a great sandalwood soap - not sure if they do aftershave. I get it in John Lewis

NoblesseOblige · 11/12/2008 18:36

cool - are there any fruity aftershaves out there or is that too girly ?

Megglevache · 11/12/2008 18:39

I was going to say R&G too.

this sounds rather scrum

MamaHobgoblin · 11/12/2008 18:41

whats the male equivalent of patchouli?

Um, I think it's Sandalwood!

I love the stuff, me.

If you're after unusual and woodsy niffs, Penhaligons do something called Quercus. Opus 1870 is lovely, too. Both very understated, classic woody scents. Costs a fortune though! I got addicted to their Bluebell (for me, not DH!) when I foolishly spent half an hour in the Regent St shop, and nabbed some on ebay for maybe a fifth of the retail price!

wideratthehips · 11/12/2008 18:41

have a look at the penhaligons website, dh wears blenheim bouquet (mens further down)

wonderful smells....great classics

NoblesseOblige · 11/12/2008 18:43

ooh it does doesn't it? lol at trumpers though, will be appropriate in more ways than one

what do your dhs wear and what does it smell like?

OP posts:
NoblesseOblige · 11/12/2008 18:45

great minds...

blenheim bouquet sounds lovely - and dh owuld like to think that he is "aristocratic and restrained!"

wideratthehips · 11/12/2008 18:46

wideratthehips · 11/12/2008 18:48

wideratthehips · 11/12/2008 18:49

the lavandula got me through my recent bought of morning sickness...found it very calming

MamaHobgoblin · 11/12/2008 18:57

wider - ! Just spent ten mins browsing the Penhaligons site wistfully. Can't afford any of it...

BiancaCastafiore · 11/12/2008 19:07

Not aftershave but my husband usesthis it's great, good value sandalwood soap - great scent; it's made with "authentic sandalwood essence and fine sandalwood powder"

expatinscotland · 11/12/2008 19:09

I'm for the Crabtree and Evelyn one, too.

NoblesseOblige · 11/12/2008 19:13

ok...plan is...go a-sniffing in boots etc tomorrow and then get cheaper on t'net

many thanks for the inspiration

How is your little boy? Do the girls love him? Do you get anyway near him with them around?

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 11/12/2008 20:27

I had same dilemma for DH's christmas present last year. Most men's scents are quite light and breezy imo.

I finally found M7 by Yves Saint Laurent. Its beautiful. Very deep, sandalwood, vetiver, very masculine. I'm an aromatherapist and many commercially produced scents give me a major headache as they are so artificial. However, this is an amazing fragrance...........have I sold it enough yet

expatinscotland · 11/12/2008 21:47

hiya, meg!

ds is FAB. he's 13lbs., 5oz. and 5 weeks old.

unfortunately, however, DD2 came down with a cold she picked up at nursery, which she then passed to DD1 and now to poor DS.

so he's a bit snuffly and has a wee cough and that's keeping us all on the hop (my folks are still here, thankfully).

DD1 adores him - kisses him, wants to hold him, etc.

DD2 doing fairly well with him, wants to shake his Infacol and bottle, bring you things, etc.
