She is a keen gardener and I usually get a plant, but she commented that she didn't have room for any more atm in her garden.

She reads a lot, but I have no idea what she has or hasn't read. Doesn't like cooking, so cookery books are out. Her big interest is films, but I know nothing about films or what she has or hasn't seen or read in that area.

Doesn't like smelly stuff or bath stuff (yet always gets it for me ).

She's very unmaterialistic, and doesn't like unnecessary things.

What about a bird feeder or nesting box for her garden?

Blackduck · 04/12/2008 14:35

could you do a subscription for lovefilm (assuming they do such a thing!0

Perhaps she has a Wish List set up on Amazon? Or how about cinema or theatre vouchers?

sellorrenovate · 04/12/2008 14:36

Gardening magazine subscription.

log on to sarah raven here everyone i know (including myself) loves anything from her catalogue.....for those who like flicking through cookery magazines and book like its porn, this is the equivalent for gardeners!

ohdearwhatamess · 04/12/2008 14:37

Mmm, interesting idea. Her dcs will like that even if she doesn't, I think.

Sorry, slow typing.

Subscriptions are a no-no. I don't know which she has (suspect she has some).
Doesn't like the theatre.
Has no use for cinema vouchers (her dh works for a cinema and she gets free tickets for anything she wants to see).

Will check out Sarah Raven website.

the website looks a bit bare at the moment. there is usually loads of glass wear for displaying flowers and lovely salad bowls...for the salad you have grown. i usually shop there spring/summer though

PrimulaVeris · 04/12/2008 14:49

Gardening magazine subscription

Membership of Royal Horticultural Soc (which has magazine) - unless she's already a member of course!

National Garden Gift tokes - use at most garden centres. So if garden's chock full still useful for buying compost, fretilizer, practical stuff like that

ohdearwhatamess · 04/12/2008 15:02

She is an RHS member already.

I love the Sarah Raven website (and am now tempted to buy myself a spade ) but it isn't SIL's sort of thing at all.

Think the bird feeder idea is still the best one.
