Personalised story book - recommendation?

Any recommendations for those personalised story books where you supply details of the child (eg where they live, siblings, pets, friends) and then they become the star of a template story.

My 5 year old nephew is learning to read and I think he might like one of these for Christmas. I've googled but it's impossible to tell which companies are any good and which just send you a flimsy photocopied bit of rubbish.

Thanks a lot!

You could do a photobook, with familiar places and faces for him. I've made one with photobox but snapfish is also supposed to be a good site. They cost about £10 if you go for smallish paperback. You'll have to write the text, but it would make a lovely keepsake in the future.

My dd got one for her birthday from a friend and its great. Will go and find it and see what details it has of where it was from.

My dd2 (age 6) has this one www.nameinabook.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_4&products_id=20 She has read it lots of times and is really pleased with it, especially the line where wonder woman says

"Thank you for your help, dd2. You are a real hero!"

disclaimer: it is not a classic or a great book - just a bit of fun

My DSs and their cousin have had books from the following:

www.itsyourstory.co.uk/(sq0wjg55nwhcl02akyvkrvym)/home.aspx

DS1 had the Jack and the Beanstalk story but cousin and DS2 had the Supersox one which was a HUGE success in both cases. They get to be a super hero called Supersox who goes to rescue all the stolen teddies. Supoersox is of course the alterego of your child. Really fun story

Oooh - thanks very much for suggestions so far - and thanks *Mumto2littleangels" for checking with your friends. I like the Photobox idea too - maybe not just for my nephew!

Keep 'em coming - I forsee presents for the next few years for any under 10s at all!

I have bought 'it's your story' books ffor both of mine and they are lovely. Someone started a thread earlier here which I thought looked fab but maybe a bit young for you.

Wigeon · 06/12/2008 20:52

Also thank you SquiffyHock - that looks brilliant!

Just wanted to say that I've just received the "Too Many Monsters" from here and it's lovely!

Loved "It's your story" but couldn't find a photo of my nephew which was sufficiently close-up, where he was smiley and looking straight at the camera....maybe next year!

Thanks again,
