What can I get my 4 month old DD for her 1st Xmas??

Having real trouble trying to think of a 1st Xmas present for my DD..she'll be 4 months by then. I'd like to get a special first Xmas pressie IYKWIM! Was thinking a doll?? I have got her that book "Guess how much I love you" and I'd be happy to just give her just that and save money for later but want some things for her as DS will probably have lots of parcels. Have already the usual things from when DS was little, like walker etc. New to this girl thing been overrun by cars, trains etc for the past couple of years.
Um, budget up to £50
Any ideas much appreciated

what about a shape sorter?
or a Fisher Price Stand Up Ball Blast
or those touchy feeling crinkly material books
or crayons you can use in the bath

we got our tiny dc a clock, beatrix potter style rabbity pottery iykwim, and 'special' album/scrapbook things, where we have kept their landmark photo's, school pics and stuff ever since. All of this still in use and they are 8,5 and 3yo.

A soft toy that will grow to be her fave?

(remembers own dd's fave toy which is in her bed right now and is still loved, but motheared and minging!!)

just pass her the paper that ds rips off his parcels for her to play with. at 4 months she really couldnt give a toss about stuff

why not get a photo book printed for her titled 'welcome to the family - first christmas Dd' - fill if with photos of family near and far. it's something to open on the day, something she can treasure, and a good talking point (encourage people to sit with her and ds and tell them about the people in the book).

else 'fancy dress' (e.g. a peppa pig or teddy bear fleecy sleepsuit from mothercare). My Dd was thrilled when ever her baby bro had 'animal' clothes. She'd prance around him talking about it - and he'd love the extra attention, smiling away.

are girls more into soft toys than boys?? I tried forever to give DS one as a comfort toy and it never worked. He's not that bothered about them, that is, except for the teddy he stole off his baby sister which is in his cot now!!

Like the beatrix potter pottery idea..remember my Mum having some in the cupboards which she'd had as a child!

We got dd3 the wigwam last year and it's been great. She was 9 months then but it's something they can really grow into. Look out for the farm and noahs ark!

not sure about the comfortor/fave cuddly type thing. I think i was just fortunate that it was that one thing on her fisrt xmas that she took a shine to.

Mind yuo she was 8 months by then so older than your lo.

TBVH i would prob get a little something to mark the occasion, and spend the rest on Baileys

Our DD was 4 months old last Christmas and we ended up buying her a ladybird spinner, where she could lie on her tummy and spin round to enjoy the activity mat (to be used until crawling). I don't think she got much else, except for clothes. She had all the toys from her big brother (who was 6 months for his first Christmas and ended up with every toy imaginable for a 6 month old - funny how you realise they simply don't need all that stuff).

My friend made her DS (4 months old) a treasure basket for his first Christmas (ie usual bits and pieces from the kitchen to explore). Other friends of mine bought their children toys for a 6 month old, but kept them back for a couple of months.

MincePirate you have reminded me that there is a bottle of Sheridan's (almost Baileys) in the cupboard. Need it after spending most of my day in shopping centre getting pressies for my family and DH's (why do they never do it themselves!!)

we're in same predicament. older dcs will wonder why 4mth old doesn't have pressies/stocking. I've bought DS a play gym as his big pressie under the tree. His stocking has useful things in that I'd need to buy anyway in next few months - bodysuits; socks; new bowl, spoon, plate for weaning and a magic flannel.

Came across this really cute idea, more for after Christmas though. You can use your own photos and create a 'My first Christmas' memory book www.love2read.co.uk I ordered a book for DH 'My dad...' which my 2 year old loves to read.

Does she have a door bouncer? We got DS one of those on his first christmas at 6 months aqnd a few little books and a lovely engraved fork, knife and spoon set although that was more to mark the first christmas but is now used all the time and he is 2.5YO.

For dd's 1st christmas, we bought her a really special hardbacked Christmas book and wrote a message from Father Christmas about it being her 1st christmas etc inside the front cover. Means that she has something special from her 1st Christmas that she can look back on.

DD3 will be 5 months have bought her some teethers, a wee pram toy thing, bibs, weaning set, bath toys and one present from FC, it's more about the others seeing she has a stocking too. Love the Christmas book idea.

A bit off topic but a tip I was given from another mner was to get ds1 to choose some of his toys to give to ds2 as christmas pressies. It evened up the amount of stuff they each got and (maybe ) taught ds1 something about sharing. I really didn't want to buy a whole lot more baby stuff.

How about a musical box? there's some lovely ones by trousselier, we bought one for our dd last year when she was 4 months, it was great to hold her attention while we got her ready for bed, but it's something for when she's older too.
