HOW DO YOU COVER UP THE STAND AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR (FAKE) XMAS TREE?

Before you put any pressies there? I did buy one of those 'skirt' things, but I don't really like it.

Anyone please?

Tinsel - big thick tinsel (or the thickest I have in the box )

GooberKingWenceslas · 01/12/2008 19:52

Lotsa presents.

OnceAPillockNowAnAngel · 01/12/2008 19:53

I've seen a few things that look to me like a piece of cardboard wrapped around the base of the tree, sort of like a tube. Looked like something the dcs could help decorate maybe?

NotBigJustBolshy · 01/12/2008 19:53

A huge big nest of tinsel.

Merlin · 01/12/2008 19:54

Oh - don't like tinsel - sorry!

I have 2 stunning silk, velvet embroidered skirts, one in traditional colours (gold/green/red) and another in peacock/emerald/silver (made by my mother). Alternatively you can buy specially designed wooden "planters" that accomodate artifical tree stands.

Merlin · 01/12/2008 20:17

COV - your velvet ones sound gorgeous!!! Haven't seen wooden planters - where do they sell them?

I got a pine cone garland type thing from b&q today - it jst kinda goes over the legs - you can still see them a bit but it looks reallly nice? Cost £3?

specialmagiclady · 01/12/2008 20:33

Ooh - I have lovely green velvet thing that would be perfect!

gaussgirl · 02/12/2008 17:25

I got a big plastic flower pot, cut 3 slots in it for the 3 legs of the tree to stick out of, sprayed the pot gold and tied a big red crepe paper bow around it, and then stuffed some white foamy packing material in the top to look like snow.

It is a bit tricky assembling the tree stand inside the pot but since I only do it once a year, it's OK!

Yet another thing to get paranoid about

I never cover up the bottom of my tree

Does this make me a bad mother?

janeite · 02/12/2008 19:48

I am clearly a bad mother too, as we don't cover up the bottom of our tree either. I just gradually add more pressies to the layers around it.

gaussgirl · 02/12/2008 20:30

Disgraceful.

amerryscot · 02/12/2008 20:39

We have a satin Christmas tree skirt that my SIL made for us.

Merlin · 02/12/2008 21:11

Thanks for all suggestions - some of you are very posh with your satin or velvet skirts!!!!

Think I am going for the garland thingy wrapped round.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

My 'posh' skirt is just an 'O' shape (with a slit), and then with a contrasting gathered edge. Can't think how to describe it technically - like the bottom two layers of a gypsy skirt, flattened out.
