I can't think for the life of me what to buy my grandmother. She's 89, pretty frail, sadly she's now blind too. She finds talking books a bit hard to follow esp as she can't operated the cd/tape player easily. Every year I get her either a shawl/scarf, a photo of ds (obv not appropriate now she is blind), a pot plant or a brooch. I'm struggling this year.

What's your present dilemma?

my mum, she is 70 and has everything, so need to find that extra special different item and i just cannot think!

pagwatch · 01/12/2008 15:40

My mother. She is 75 and will not under any circumstances be happy with what I give her, regardless of cost, thought, care or even ( and this is actually quite impressive) having asked for it.

DumbledoresGirl · 01/12/2008 15:41

What about some nice hand cream for your grandma? Would do for your mother too bb.

DumbledoresGirl · 01/12/2008 15:42

I get my mother a calendar each year made up of photos of my children. Go to Kodak gallery dot co dot uk. It is very easy to do.

Any ideas for my dh?

SleighGirl · 01/12/2008 15:43

I'm stuck for sh too, he'd like an ipod docking station but IL's are buying him that.

bollockbrain · 01/12/2008 15:45

yes DG was thinking along the lines of some sort of facial/manicure or whatever kind of voucher. will give it some more thought.

Hassled · 01/12/2008 15:46

Pagwatch - if that is the case you need to stop thinking about what she wants and just get her something she needs. Even if she doesn't like it, she'll be forced to use it.

HeadFairy - am stumped. Sorry.

bollockbrain - s selection of nice fancy teas and coffees from somewhere like Whittard?

My problems is:
Rich DB (mid 40s) who lives a glamorous lifestyle and if he wants something he just goes and buys it. And his partner - he's early thirties, quite flamboyant. Has to be online so can be delivered to New York.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 01/12/2008 15:47

Similar prob to you Headfairy - MIL's mum is 102 and almost blind, almost deaf and very frail. Have NO ideas.

HeadFairy · 01/12/2008 15:48

dunbledoresgirl, I'm doing everyone a calendar as it's one of my things I do every year. She can't see so there's sadly no point in giving her that. The handcream is a nice idea.

Sleighgirl, could you buy an itunes gift card for your sh (or should that be dh?)

Pagwatch, that's quite tough. Is she just not a fan of presents?

My parents - wanted to get them some kind of experience. A friend suggested Sunday lunch on a steam train but there aren't any near them so now I am stuck. I am buying my nan chocolates from Hotel Chocolat!

mummydoc · 01/12/2008 15:49

for old and blind grannies - soft centre chocolates, dull but hey i am sure they wont mind, and pagwatch if your mother is htat ungrateful - nothing

cremolafoam · 01/12/2008 15:49

nephew age 25.( already richer than God)

HeadFairy · 01/12/2008 15:50

I was thinking of something that smells nice for GM Buda, I was a bit nervous about a candle as she's blind. Some lovely Chrismassy pot pourri?

DumbledoresGirl · 01/12/2008 15:50

Oh sorry HF, the calendar idea wasn't for you, but the others. It would take some mother to complain about a calendar made up of pics of her grandchildren!

HeadFairy · 01/12/2008 15:51

oooh hotel chocolat walleroo, trouble is whenever I go on there I end up feeling too hungry to think and have to go and buy myself some chocolate Tis a good idea though.

pagwatch i sympathise. I organised tickets for a concert that Mum had said she'd love to go to, but when i phoned up to tell her that I'd got the tickets , she said she'd have to phone me back after she had checked her diary.

GAH!

fruittea · 01/12/2008 15:52

Hassled - how about some British foodie treats - eg from Betty's

DumbledoresGirl · 01/12/2008 15:52

Come on! Need ideas for dh. We dont have any a lot of money this year. Last year, I got him an ipod but this year is going to have to be a lot less flash.

fruittea · 01/12/2008 15:53

My problem is 40 year old batchelor BIL who lives at home with his mother...into trains but can't set his train set up since he moved back home...

HeadFairy · 01/12/2008 15:54

I guess for rich couples (p'raps not for single blokes) something from The White Company is good.

fruittea · 01/12/2008 15:54

DG, I've got DH a couple of DVDs so we can watch them together after the kids have done to bed. And a few books. What's yours interested in?

bollockbrain · 01/12/2008 15:55

dumbledore - what is the budget for dh?

DumbledoresGirl · 01/12/2008 15:55

Fruittea, does he like old fashioned railway lines? My dh does and he has a few of those books you can buy mainly at steam railway stations which consist of old photos and plans of old lines.

HeadFairy · 01/12/2008 15:55

DG, is your dh in to gadgets? I got my dh some noise cancelling headphones to use with his ipod. Comes in handy when ds is kicking off too

cremolafoam · 01/12/2008 15:55

what about a fruit basket HF?
