I am completely baffled by the whole costume making thing - surely you end up with this mish mash of things where parents go all out or couldn't be arsed?

Yes ,our school has a stash of costumes so we don't have to make anything

Ooh but you're also Dorset - maybe it is a Dorset thing?? I don't recall Psycho having to make costumes...

Yep, im in west dorset , dd goes to a tiny school (less then 100 children). When i was a child the school alway provided the costumes.

Flamesparrow · 30/11/2008 11:20

Lol def not the same school then . I think that DD is probably using the same costumes I used, just with a bit of new tinsel

No stash at our school. And you can guarantee that if DS1 was one thing, DS2 will be another, so not even any re-using!

I work in a junior school which has a large cupboard full of costumes - there's a rail down one side with various princess dresses, mayor's coats & other things that have to hang up & the rest of the cupboard is stacked with boxes full of hats, shirts, trousers, tights, bears' heads, & pretty much anything else you can turn into a character.

I know the cupboard has been used for cotumes for at least 15 years, because it was 'in the costume cupboard' that Mr X & Miss Y were discovered getting very friendly & they both left before my children went there.

I did wonder too re the costumes. DS is in Yr1 and so his second concert but school provide the outfits.

Good job really as can't sew for toffee so if we had to do them it would need to be in ready made format I could buy

PurplePillow · 30/11/2008 11:54

Our school sends a list to parents of which costumes are needed but I didn't get one because dd said I was making it then told me

Would be a good idea to get the school to save the costumes though

My dd's pre school has all the costumes for the nativity play, she just needs to wear white tights.

MrsWeasleyLovesSantasSack · 30/11/2008 13:21

we have a stash of costumes for xmas plays or if its a big "whole school production" its a mixture of parents to provide and school to get made.

Book weeks are down to parents alone.
(easiest one was a lad wore a sheet and declared he was Jesus!)
