New Year's Eve Fireworks in London

We want to take our DDs (aged 13 & 10) to see the fireworks in London on New Year's Eve as we are living half an hour away by train (and will have left the area by next year).

Does anyone have any tips? Where to stand, etc?

I know this isn't strictly Christmas 08 but it seemed a reasobale place to post this. If it should be somewhere else, please tell me!

Thank you.

Make sure you get there early to get a decent standing space.

Be prepared for the crush on the trains afterwards. Everyone arrives in dribs and drabs but everyone wants to go home at the same time.

My daughter went last year and I think I remember her saying that they'd had to walk quite a way to an open tube station as they'd closed a lot of them (or were only letting groups in at a time) because of overcrowding and safety issues.

Thanks nbee. Any idea where that decent standing place might be?

Good point about the trains being busy afterwards. Luckily we can walk to Waterloo and so won't need to fight our way onto the tube.
