i really hate nasty plastic toys.

i really hate the fact that she saw it advertised on tv.

but it's what she wants.

should i get it?

would you?

you put her in the bath and then do her hair.

I've given in to that one as well. Plastic but joy giving [gri]

Fiveplusbump · 21/11/2008 14:03

My dd wants it too ,it is her birthday a week after xmas ,I am hoping it gets reduced then I will buy it her .

It is tat but didn't we all love playing with tat when we were smaller.

DorrisMcWhirter · 21/11/2008 14:03

sorry....

thenewme · 21/11/2008 14:04

I really didn't want to buy what my 5 year old asked for. IMO it didn't have a lot of play value and I didn't know where it would go. It was what she kept saying she wanted though and as she doesn't usually ask for anything, I have decided to get it for her and I am glad I did.

iheartdusty · 21/11/2008 14:04

i really hate nasty plastic toys and adverts, but I would get the one thing along with a more varied and interesting range of other presents.

actually bath toys do probably need to be plastic (or rubber I suppose) don't they?

it's the relentless branding of them I really loathe - as if a toy is not a toy unless it has a 'character' plastered all over it.

nailpolish · 21/11/2008 14:05

stop being so mean

noonar · 21/11/2008 14:06

hmm....thanks...jury's still out...

noonar · 21/11/2008 14:06

OP posts:
nailpolish · 21/11/2008 14:13

but its not for you!

noonar · 21/11/2008 14:16

yeah, but i'd still like to get something that i see as good quality/ value.

DD1 is getting a styling head for her birthday...

She really wants one, I know she'll be so pleased when she opens it

Imagine if you nagged your dh/dp for a specific type of perfume for Christmas and he went and got you a different brand?

Do it!

seeker · 21/11/2008 14:20

Of course! It's for her, not you!

Or could a grandparent get it for her? My FIL took HUGE pleasure in buying the plastic tat his grandchildren wanted - and it meant that we could hold the line against plastic tat while not depriving the dcs of the presents they really wanted - as opposed to the ones we wanted them to have!

mysterymoniker · 21/11/2008 14:20

horrible to even think of letting own tastes dictate here

noonar · 21/11/2008 14:26

ok, i obviously do want to get my dd something she likes. i'm not totally lacking in empathy, but i do think there's something rather distateful about buying a plastic head/ torso. i just find it a bit sinister, i suppose.

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 21/11/2008 14:30

I think it's more that you hate plastic tat, rather than finding it sinister

Girls' World head-things have been around forever (well, I had one when I was 5 or 6!)

She'll love it, get hours of play out of it, it's not 'not of value' because she will benefit from playing with it. It's a role-play toy, isn't it?

For me, I'm hoping it will stop DD hassling to do my hair all the time

nailpolish · 21/11/2008 14:30
Hmm
nailpolish · 21/11/2008 14:31

that was to "sinister"

how can dora be sinister?

she will lvoe it

my dd has a bratz one. i hate bratz but she loves it. its harmless ffs

ingles2 · 21/11/2008 14:36

does your dd believe in FC? if so she will be expecting that sinister bit o plastic tat come Xmas day.... better get it....trust me you do not want a disappointed dc

notnowbernard · 21/11/2008 14:38

That crossed my mind too, Ingles...

If she believes she won't after!

wendylanguage · 21/11/2008 20:23

My friend's DD aged 4 has this for her bath. I'm sorry to tell you, she absolutely LOVES it . You'll have to give in!
