Going away for christmas, would you?

I have often toyed with the idea of going away at christmas, but financially it's not been viable.

We are in a better position now but I think i've left it a bit too late to do anything this year

I would love the children to wake up in a log cabin with snow 4 foot deep outside and reindeer outside the window. Sitting around a log fire, with tumblers of whiskey and all wearing Val Doonican jumpers. Is this fictional? I was thinking it's somewhere in Canada perhaps?

I have broached the subject of going away, to find my dream christmas but DP says that i'd still have to do and do all the things i'd be doing at home anyway so we might as well stay here

I've not got much family to be honest, just me and my 2 sisters and they do their own thing round the in laws.
My friend goes away every christmas, Tenerife , that' not my idea of a dream christmas but hey ho, they hate all the christmas stuff and want to get away from it all.

Is getting away such a bad thing?
Would you do it?

Where can I find my dream christmas, or should I just grow up.

(don't like the whole Lapland idea to be honest, my 8 year old and 11 year old don't believe in Father Christmas )

You've probably left it a bit late for this year.

But some ideas here

I don't think you should give the children whiskey.

But that aside, YES, go go go. We have a deal with the kids that we go every other Christmas and it's fantastic.

We are going to house sit for my cousins in France. can't wait! My parents are a bit gitted but I reckon it will be a nice break for us. Go for it!

I would do it. And I would go to a slef-catering hotel - such a thing must exist - where someone else would cook, serve, and clear up Xmas dinner, but we would also have the otpion of cooking for ourselves and having our own living room with ensuite log firre and val doonicaln sweaters.

I would love to be able to get away for Xmas. All the above would only be for dha nd the LOs' benefit - personally I'm bored with Xmas.
