You know, that might fit in a sock?

DS's 7&5 haven't really asked for much this year. We've got one idea for a main pressie, which will be from mum and dad between them, but old guy will have to get them something.

What are the best pocket money type toys your boys have enjoyed?

Dino eggs, you put them in water and they fizz to reveal a dinosaur. My ds loves them.

Playmobile do very small packs with just one or two characters like a knight or a pirate.

Silly putty

Torch

Magnifying glass for looking for bugs

I'll see if I can think of anything else

kittenloren · 09/11/2008 20:43

Agree Silly Putty is fabulous stuff. Also whoopee cushions, (a 'parp whistle' that cost 50p was the 'star' of Christmas two years ago ), colour-change LED egg, wind-up what-nots (somersaulting animals this year), pack of stick-on moustaches, harmonica, bendy pencils, little kaleidoscope, Star Wars light saber, 'Make Your Own Beano' - all made frequent reappearances rather than disappearing to the bottom of the toybox never to be seen again. Hawkin's Bazaar always have lots of good bits in.

Whizzy balloons. Long balloons that you blow up with a plastic tube. When you let them go they scream round the room at top speed. Fantastic fun! And if we are at my parents house the dog goes mad. Superb!

Pawslikepaddington · 09/11/2008 20:47

Whizzy balloons here too. And those rainbow colouring pencils or "spy pens"-the ones where you write in invisible ink

pickie · 09/11/2008 20:51

Same here, dino eggs, torch, magnifying glass, whoopee cusions (also popular with rest of family), kaleidoscope, slinky dinky and bouncing balls

OrmIrian · 09/11/2008 20:51

Somebody mentioned Hawkins Bazaar. it is all you need!

janeite · 11/11/2008 22:24

I don't have boys but .....

Those cardboard trees that you water and they grow coloured fluffy stuff for blossom.

Fortune telling fish - it is the 11th commandment that every stocking must contain a fortune telling fish, you know!

Those bird kits that slot together to make a flying bird or flying aeroplane (still available from Hawkins)

Torches, Playmobil sets, drawing stuff, face paints, marbles - all good for longer term play value.

mrsmaidamess · 11/11/2008 22:25

Those thin polystyrene old fashioned planes that you slot together. They fly like a dream.

Also, a dino egg where you scrape away the egg like an archaeologist to revel the dino within.

janeite · 11/11/2008 22:27

That's the ones I was trying to describe but your description makes much more sense!

princessmel · 11/11/2008 22:29

Those flannels that start of tiny and grow in water.
Dinosaur eggs that hatch in water then grow for a few days.
Polystyrene(sp) planes
Bendy men
