so does father christmas just bring the stocking or all of the presents or a combination in your house?

When I was little I seem to remember the stocking and all of the other presents came from father christmas. I am not sure how that worked as there were always presents under the tree and we always had thankyou cards to write. Maybe children just don't think about the little details! DH did it a totally different way as a child and we can't quite agree. His way means only the stocking is from father christmas but then surely writing a letter to him is pointless in this case?!

In the great scheme of things I know its not really important but how is it done in your hosue?

There were also a couple of silly presents under the tree from father christmas too that were put there on christmas eve night to be found in the morning.

We used to have all presents from FC, but father in law grumbled about it and I thought he was probably right, so the following year we changed it. The dc's were very young, so wouldn't have remembered. Then we had all the presents from dh and I as FC with the exception of one official one from us. DD1 knows about FC and dd2 and ds now believe as of this year that FC brings the stocking, but the rest is us. I don't know how much longer we can go with the younger two still believing, but I hope it'll be a few years yet.

and when you say 'stocking' do you mean a small stocking type thing, as when i was little we had a sack filled with gifts, but called them a 'stocking'

christmas is so confusing!

Stocking and biggest present under the tree from FC, smaller presents from us or whoever they are from. Can't get my head around the all from FC deal at all, had never heard of anyone doing it until fairly recently. I was not brought up in England though, is it traditional here?

Stocking for me is literally a stocking, with small trinkets and trifles in it. One major difference between me and DH is that in our house stocking presents were unwrapped - his were always wrapped individually and whereas we opened our stockings in our own beds to give our poor parents a little more sleep, he and his sibs opened them on their parents bed.
We do it his way and I prefer it now, but my mum finds it weird.
We also do opening presents his family's way - everyone gets handed one and takes turns to open while everyone else watches instead of all piling in together amid a frenzy of flying wrapping paper the way we always did.
My mum disapproves of my newfound uptight ways...

We had the same prob - trying to reconcile 'his' way and 'my' way - we actually had to sit down and think up 'our' way. We nearly fell out over it! Now both sets of our parents think our new way is weird!!

We now have decided that DS will have his stocking, stocking size, with little pressies, not wrapped, and one sack with one big (size, not expense) present. All other presents are given from the person who brought them. So as DS grows he will be able to ask for one big present from FC.

DS can go through his stocking while we are in bed (and as he is 2 and a half probably will) but will have to wait to go downstairs with us.

Just the stocking presents are from Father Christmas with us. They tend to be small quirky things, and are unwrapped. There's also a letter from Santa, in wobbly handwriting, which takes ages to do.

The stocking is an open in bed the instant you wake up item, and it is a big thing with a teddy face that seems to swallow up heaps of stuff.

Tree presents are from the people who bought them, and are unwrapped in turn with all the family.

Italians, I gather, don't have Christmas stockings. This I discovered when my DD asked her friend (of Italian descent) what she got in her stocking. Oh hearing the friend hadn't got one DD said very gravely: "Oh dear, you must have been very bad," upon which two mothers rapidly changed the conversation.

Stocking from FC, other presents from whoever they're from (actually, technically I've never said that the stocking is from FC either, but I know DS thinks it is and I haven't disillusioned him).

He doesn't write letters to FC; he does have a hypothetical "Christmas List" but knows that that's just suggestions for people to get him. The smaller stuff on his list tends to turn up in his stocking.

Sack at the end of the bed from mum and dad, all other presents on their christmas list from santa. Other presents come from the person that is giving them ie grandma/grandad etc.

Santa also brings things like pork pies and leaves them in the fridge (was on DD's list)

Same when I was a kid Santa brought a stocking (rugby sock) full of little presents and a double Now tape .

Father Christmas, brings every thing dh and I buy. Because they get enough from us the rest of the year.
Other presents are from relatives, and need (even when dd was 6 weeks old!!) to have a hand written thank you letter.

Santa wraps the presents in the stockings (slows things down).

All go down to gether tea and toast then very civilised present opening, one at a time and kids hand them out and see what everyone gets, again slower and kids see the giving not just recieving bit.

The stocking is a normal big knee length hiking sock kind of thing (more exciting because it looks all knobbly when full of stuff!) or one of the red stockings with white fur trim you can buy everywhere.

We used to put one of a pair (different for each of us) on the end of our bed on Christmas eve when we went to bed and mum would have the other half of the pair already prefilled in a cupboard somewhere (things all wrapped for extra excitement apart from a few things sticking out of the top) and then just switch them over quickly when she went to bed. Items all small and quirky like smelly rubbers, toothbrush etc etc

We used to write to father christmas asking for things akin to what we would find in our stocking - e.g. PINK toothbrush, stickers etc rather than a bike or another big item because we knew that FC didn't bring big things.

My family despairs of me and my love for Father Christmas, still, at the age of 38....!! The magic

stocking from santa along with one or two little gifts. we provide the rest but dont have time to wrap them so santa takes them away. ds is 3.5 now so is a new believer! we also have pj's and a book from jack frost on xmas eve.

Just stockings buy this I mean Christmas bags with about 20 small gifts in them.
