My DD who will be 4.5 by Christmas only wants an angel outfit for Christmas, which my MIL is buying her. I really want to get her a dolls house (more me that wants it actually, my DH says he will buy one for me). They are all a bit expensive (looked in ELC, wonderland toys website, GLTC, etc). So was going to get my old one dusted down, repaint it and buy a starter Furniture set. Good idea? If she loved it, would consider getting a new one in a couple of years time when she and her sister (Who is 21 months) will both enjoy it.

All about saving money this year.

I think that's a lovely idea, and they may cherish it more knowing it was yours?

We did the same thing for our girls, when the eldest was the same age. My dad made it for me when I was about 7 and now it's lovely to see them play with it.

It depends what size it is, but we found that the Playmobil room sets were a perfect fit. They are in this section:

www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-GB-Site/en_GB/Search-Show?cgid=Citylife-Modernes_Wohnen

They come in individual boxes, so we briefed assorted relatives and friends what we were doing and they bought a room each. Voila - one fully furnished dolls house with a large extended family of occupants (each Playmobil kit comes with at least two people, so we have rather a lot of aunties, uncles, older brothers, lodgers etc!)

We had great fun doing this with my old dollshouse, too. DD actually helped me paint it. We bought wooden furniture sets from ELC and asked family to buy them too.

What a lovely idea.My dds have my old dolls which my dad made in the 1970's & every child that comes to play is fascinated by it.

I'm sure your dd will love it all the more because it was once yours!
