They are called angel chimes. I have wanted some ever since I read a story with one in, when I was about six and I have never, ever, ever seen one in a shop. Please, if you know where I can buy one in a real shop, rather than online, I will be, like the aliens in Toy Stroy, eternally grateful.

NotanOtter · 02/11/2008 22:15

thankyou Janeite

I will google now and of course i will tell you if i find 'shop' one

how sweet!

Sad Christmas Tale

My mum has one of these.

When we were kids my parents saved up for a new dining room table and it was delivered a week before Christmas. We sat round the table and my mum proudly put the Angel Chimes in the middle as a centre piece and we had a lovely dinner.

My mum's happiness at new dining table turned to horror when she cleared the table and realised that the angel chimes had got so hot that they had burned a big circular mark on her new table, right through the mat it was standing on.

My parents never did crazy stuff like claim on their house insurance so we used that table for 20 years with a cloth over it to hide the mark.

Anyway, just a word of warning - they get hotter than you think! But they are lovely.

tassisssss · 03/11/2008 12:25

can i just say that i love these but they're a bit annoyi9ng when you're a grown up!

tassisssss · 03/11/2008 12:25

(john lewis had them a few years ago. top tip is to stock up on candles whenever you see them!!)

NotanOtter · 03/11/2008 21:20

kbear that is sooo sad it actually made me cry

My mum never got over it! It was high drama that night I can tell you. not in the least bit funny, although we do laugh now it's not so raw (this happened in about 1975), it cost a fortune and it was probably the first new thing they'd ever bought.

NotanOtter · 03/11/2008 22:28

i suspect the kbear family do NOT have an angel chime adorning their ikea best!

OP posts:
Kbear · 03/11/2008 22:35

They do not! We don't do candles at the Kbear's den, unless there is a power cut!

LolaLadybird · 03/11/2008 22:54

I think they are lovely but my DH would wholeheartedly agree with tassiss on the 'annoying' factor so we stopped using ours. Think I might have to buy the really sweet non-chiming one on iheart's link.
