That's it really. She's my PFB and the first grandchild on both sides and I know she may get a bit spoiled this year, but I'm trying to approach it logically and not go overboard on age-appropriate 12 month toys. So, since no birthday later in the year...what are good toys for 12 - 24 months?

All suggestions welcome!!! Thanks!!!

Maybe something for the garden that she can use in the Summer?

mynameis · 02/11/2008 01:21

My youngest is Jan 1st birthday & I agree garden toys are always a good bet.
Also he was bought a noddy laptop on his 2nd bday this year which he wasn't interested in until a few weeks ago, so maybe some interactive toys that can grow with your dd.

cornsilkpyrotechnicqueen · 02/11/2008 01:36

sand pit
car thing
little slide
tent

Garden toys would be lovely, if we had a garden to put them in...We're in a flat, so was thinking of ride-ons ala wheelybugs (indoors)or maybe a trike(we could take to nearby park)? Not sure if a trike is too advanced though?

What about dolls/kitchen/drss-ups? Is it all too advanced? Not really sure what she'll be into in the year ahead...

Right now she's loving things that make noise and are chewable...

Clothes. 'cause the little buggers grow so bloody fast. I bet she's already got enough toys to open her own branch of ToysRUs. Mine has!

Peridot30 · 02/11/2008 01:51

I always ask for clothes for my kids birthday. They grow far too quickly. MOSt people give them clothes and a smallish toy or book.

My DS's birthday is Christmas Eve, he's 4 this year. I know that grandparents will want to buy your dd an actual gift but from friends of our's I sometimes suggest that they give him a present for his birthday and money for Christmas. He can actually open the present from them on his b'day so he knows who it's from, then christmas presents are all from father christmas, and he gets so much he'd never play with it all straight away anyway.
I then save the money to buy him something later in the year, last year it was a bike in March for example.
Some people might feel odd asking for money' but it's just a suggestion that has worked so far for us.

dd had her first doll for her first birthday and loved it.

She wasn't into kitchens/dressing up for at least another 18months, I would say.

She realy liked (and still does) toys from this range

These were also enjoyed for years.

GuysballsintheSky · 02/11/2008 21:59

Watching with interest. DD's 1st birthday is 10th Jan so same position. We haven't got the room for zillions of toys but I don't know if I can tell people what to/not to buy her.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 02/11/2008 22:02

Or even Toysrus vouchers so you can buy her something later in the year.

leesmum · 03/11/2008 12:18

Tell them to get her a little prezzie to open and then ask for money off them all so you can buy her a wendy house/ climbing frame for the summer.

Ceolas · 03/11/2008 12:21

Ask for Next vouchers then you can spend them as she outgrows her clothes throughout the year.

Zillions of toys at this stage would be a big waste of money imo. I think dolls/dress up will be more appropriate next year. Wheelybug or similar, bricks, jigsaws, etc. for now.

Bramshott · 03/11/2008 12:27

My DD1's birthday is on 14 Jan and we've often gone for something like toys for Christmas, clothes for birthday, or summer/garden toys for birthday.

tassisssss · 03/11/2008 12:28

things for the garden for next summer

wheelybug
wooden trike
wee trampoline could be good as you could have it inside until the summer then put out?
little tikes plastic rocker similarly work well inside and out
otherwise we really like happyland/little people sets

Ceolas · 03/11/2008 12:36

Folks, they don't have a garden...

tassisssss · 03/11/2008 13:28

sorry

missed the no garden bit!

ilovetochat · 03/11/2008 13:30

dd had a little tikes rocking horse that she uses inside at 1 and she loves it. also jigsaws

AnneOfAvonlea · 03/11/2008 17:00

First doll, buggy, play food, plastic tea set, sand pit,

threetinytots · 03/11/2008 20:22

My DD1 also has a Jan 1st birthday and I still haven't mastered it! She will be four this year. I also have a 12m old DD2, so for xmas she is getting:

a bean bag chair
a rainbow aquadraw
a baby stella doll - this came today and is lovely. She is just starting to show an interest in DD2's dolls and this one will be just perfect for her.

Trying to rack my brains over what we got dd1 for her first christmas and birthday. Think we asked for money for clothes later on in the year and also towards a climbing frame(appreciate not applicable to you)

Wheelybugs are great, look at the scuttlebug for a trike, or a trundle truck with bricks will get lots of use.

LilRedWG · 03/11/2008 20:23

Summer garden toys - little swing or slide.

Carameli · 19/09/2010 20:28

another vote for wheelybug but get the big one. I also liked someones idea about vouchers that you can use throughout the year.
