Cinema vouchers - are they really any good?

I am tempted to get these for dnephew and dniece, but when I looked at the Odeon site there seemed to be loads of petty restrictions - eg can't make online bookings with them; can't do phone bookings; and often can't use them for the first week or two of a new release.

Are they worth having or are they a pain in the neck for the parents?

(sorry i did post this in Chat before but wondered if there were any experiences from recipients)

I have put cinema vouchers in the girls Christmas stocking. They were UCG (now cineworld. They were able to use them for any film and at anytime, They were all teenagers so just used them instead of money when they actually went to the cinema,so didn't try booking online.
They were a geat success.

I've given them to friends of my sons before and they seem to have gone down quite well. They are just of the age to go to the cinema independently. I normally buy a big box of popcorn and wrap up to go with the voucher - makes it look a bit more exciting, although I wouldn't fancy their chances of actually taking it in at our local cinema.

Thanks. maybe I'll try and get UGC instead. I like the popcorn idea!

By gift vouchers as opposed to the actual ticket type vouchers - these are jsut treated by the cinemas as cash and can be used towards tickets/food etc!
