Tradition of it being a Sunday afternoon thing with kids turning into evening once kids have gone/fallen asleep.

so we really have a choice of battling for last minute christmas shopping time or waiting until the 28th

I'd get lots more excited about a party on the 28th - 21st I'd be rushing back from shopping and probbaly have a hundred other things on my mind. 28th is something to look forward to between Christmas and New Year.

I'd rather go on 28th too

We're doing one on the evening of the 20th working on the basis that everyone can let their hair down as it's the weekend and also they won't have work parties to go to.
