We've already decided. It will be just me, dh and ds and we are going to have fresh lobster, asparugus and artichokes (if I can find them) garlic mashed potatoes, and homemade tiramisu, with some nice wine and nice coffee for our Christmas dinner. Can't wait!

MrsMattie · 01/10/2008 11:44

Oooh, hold on, that reminds me. The restaurant we've booked for lunch was supposed to be sending out menus by now. Must go and email them while I remember! Not cooking this year as will have just had a baby!

lotuseener · 01/10/2008 11:45

P.S. the reason we've planned so far in advance is we have no family/close friend around and I get a bit down around Christmas time. Dh humors me by listening to me plan way in advance so I can feel like I am creating a special, memorable day for the 3 of us, and not focus on the homesickness that Christmas makes me feel.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 01/10/2008 11:48

Beans on toast

MrsMattie · 01/10/2008 11:49

Well, we tried to book a restaurant for Xmas lunch last year around mid October and everywhere was already booked up - that's our excuse for such early bird nonsense!

Lauriefairycake · 01/10/2008 11:51

chocolate, turkey, trimmings, and more turkey.

BlingLovin · 01/10/2008 11:56

Revel in it, that's what I say. Enjoy it. No reason to be embarrassed because you're thinking of christmas way in advance. Only if you're the type who gets all stressed out and then breaks down in tears yelling, "you've ruined christmas" because the napkins turn out to be pale pink instead of dark pink!

nailpolish · 01/10/2008 11:57

depends what is on the menu

MrsMattie · 01/10/2008 12:00

LOL@BL.

The only thing I get stressed about is 'will there be enough food in the house?'. But then, I am the only one who eats it all in the end! DH might tuck into the odd piece of Stilton and cracker, but it's me who ends up wolfing the family sized packets of mince pies, Kettle chips & dips, Quality Streets etc that were bought for our 'guests' (my mum and sister - permanently on a diet, our neighbours - happy to just slosh back the sherry).

I am so looking forward to being able to have a nice (little) drink at Xmas, too! Yay! No more boring pregnancy-related abstinence.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/10/2008 12:43

noooooo!!!!!! I didnt think people would actually know yet!!!!!
We are having turkey.

I'm dreading Christmas this year as it is not our turn to have the children on Christmas day. We will prob have Beef on Christmas day and then have our Turkey on Boxing day with the children. In my head I swap it round and Boxing day in our house will be Christmas day! But as soon as Christmas day is here I will be looking forward to next year as it will be our turn then and DS is 8 and already questioning if Santa exists or not. It is one of the sad things about splitting up with XH, the kids do alright though, they get two lots of pressies, two days running!

boogeek · 01/10/2008 12:54

Meh. Am sulking about Christmas this year, as I do every other year, because it is our turn to have the inlaws, who are no help. When my family comes they all muck in and it is fun; with the inlaws I slave in the kitchen while they drink sherry and have a lovely time with my children. (And they do try to help by doing frankly ridiculous things like, last time, bringing a Christmas cake. Nice, but wouldn't most people have mentioned before Christmas Eve that they were going to do so? Of course I already had a cake organised so we had to have two.)

DaphneMoon · 01/10/2008 13:00

Actually thinking about it at least I don't have to suffer my ExMil cooking anymore. God it was truly awful.

BlingLovin · 01/10/2008 13:02

Yup MrsM, I worry about not havig enough food in house, even when we aren't hosting! Leads to obsessive food purchasing for weeks in advance. lol. DP doesn't exactly mind...!

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 01/10/2008 13:03

A lovely, succulent, well fattened nut loaf.

cheapandsmily · 01/10/2008 13:03

We exchanged contracts on our new house today so we will probably not be able to afford to eat ANYTHING on Xmas day but we will be doing it in our lovely new home

hughjarssss · 01/10/2008 14:51

I'm thinking about having duck.
Its our first year just the three of us, me, dh and dd.
I want to make it special and different to any other day so I thought duck would make a nice change.

Have no idea how to cook it though. Or what to serve with it.

brightwell · 01/10/2008 19:03

Chocolate & cheese. I'm working night's over Christmas & dc are at their dad's this year.

Flamebat · 01/10/2008 19:04

We're going to Lapland - back late afternoon on Christmas Eve - so I'm thinking a plan rather than an overpriced Waitrose trip on Christmas Eve is in order this year. Will probably order from local butcher then ask MIL to pick up then put in my fridge. Will make cranberry sauce, bread sauce, cauliflower cheese, gravy, stuffing, parboiled potatoes and parsnips and freeze as usual, and ask lovely MIL to pick up perishable goods from local store. Will be either 6 or 8 for lunch. May be back on food later to ask about frozen veg...
