Loving the idea of going to your local indian for dinner .. might have to speak to dh about doing that!

compo · 04/10/2008 13:34

turkey
with Aunt Bessies roasties and yorkies (unless dh decides to roast the potatoes himself)

SaintRiven · 04/10/2008 13:54

cor, Indian takeaway sounds a fab idea. They open on crimbo day?

lizziemun · 04/10/2008 15:19

Either beef or pork, but a normal sunday roast with dh,dd's and mum.

Then boxing day something over cooked by MIL which will probaly start out a turkey but arrive at the table as shoe leather.

Overmydeadbody · 04/10/2008 15:20

DS and I always have an assortemtn of our favourite food.

So far, on the list, is prawns and chocolate and yorkshire puddings.

McDreamy · 04/10/2008 15:24

We've decided to have Goose this year.

cheesesarnie · 04/10/2008 15:26

veggie turkey (i think made by quorn)with stuffing and trimmings!

BreevandercampLGJ · 04/10/2008 15:41

Goose is fab, but you only get the one sitting from it, and it makes a mess of your oven.

But still worth it.

girlywhirly · 04/10/2008 16:52

Roast chicken,
bacon and sausages,
gravy,
roast potatoes,
homemade chestnut stuffing,
apple slices fried in a little butter instead of apple sauce,
pureed carrots and parsnips with creme fraiche and nutmeg,
mange tout.

Home made mince pies with brandy cream

Good wine

It's just the two of us.

ludaloo · 04/10/2008 16:55

I'm doing the whole turkey thing this year.

Last year we had a buffet type meal and it was crap....no one sat and ate, just wandered around the place! It wasn't very filling either so by the evening I had to cook again.

FOOD

muggglewump · 04/10/2008 16:56

Roadt chicken
Homemade stuffing
chipolatas
veg of some desciption, I will look at recipes for new things to try
Homemade bread sauce and gravy
roast pots and parsnips in goose fat.

Along the lines of a normal Sunday dinner but with everything homemade. The rest of the year I use packet bread sauce and paxo, and just have the veg plain and roast the pots with th meat.
It's fancier on Christmas day!

No idea what to have for pudding, it will be homemade though, but I'll have mince pies in too, I make those but with bought pastry and mincemeat.

Riven and Hugh yes open on Xmas day but we are going for dinner in the restaurant.

You can get traditional turkey dinner or 4/5 choices of starter/main/pudding Indian food.

DH knows the owner so we are well looked after IYKWIM

When i host xmad day i provide and pay for all food/cook it and DH washes all dishes/clears up. Costs a fortune and lots of work. Nobody brings as much as a bottle of wine or packet of biscuits when they come.

Indian is the way to go!!!

hughjarssss · 04/10/2008 19:02

I like the idea of going to the restaurant

aGalChangedHerName · 04/10/2008 19:06

It was £25ish per adult and they don't charge us for the dc's and the ladies got a nice bottle of red wine to take away!!

Also gave dc's a gift and selection box

hughjarssss · 04/10/2008 19:08

WOW! Free wine

Wish it was my local indian!

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 04/10/2008 19:12

Humbugs

With a side order of spleen

aGalChangedHerName · 04/10/2008 19:15

Yep twas lovely. Nicest thing is that it's just me DH and the dc this time. My db has been an arse this year (left dp and dc and gone off with 19 yr old tart) so am not spending xmas with them. My mum and dad have decided to take his side and spend xmas with them so it's just us.

First time ever and i am sooo excited lol

SqueakyPop · 04/10/2008 20:08

We do standard turkey and trimmings.

kiddiz · 04/10/2008 20:10

Anything so long as I don't have to cook or shop for it

nappyaddict · 17/10/2008 16:02
