Hi,
I’m looking for feedback from people who’ve done a one day Lapland trip with kids (mine are 9 and 13). Please let me know your experiences and recommendations!
Thank you

Hi,

We went with Canterbury Travel with then 4yr old DD. It was a very special trip, she does remember it so that’s a bonus as I was worried we went too soon!
The flight over was on a Jet2 plane, air stewards played games with the children (and grown ups!), Christmas music was on and as we approached the pilot came on to get everyone to look out the window for Santa. It really added to the experience.

We were all kitted up at the airport, the staff took one look at us and knew our sizes! Boots, snowsuits etc.. . We then had a snowmobile ride over to the main location, personally that was my favourite bit. The scenery in the snow was wonderful. Very cold though - we were under blankets!

When we arrived we did the sleigh rides, husky dog rides, looking round the little shops and of course seeing the main man himself. This was another snow mobile ride away in a lodge in a forest, guided there by an elf who skipped through the snow to take us to him. Santa was magical, he read very well and very clearly a four year olds writing and attempt at spelling! And knew all the toys she wanted ( well I suppose he should! 🤣).

We ate at a restaurant, that was busy, also trying to use a very small toilet with a 4year old whilst de-kitting snow suits and thermal layers was a mission but just about manageable!

We were delayed coming home as the runway was frozen so many tired grumpy small children including our own but the flight home was surprisingly quiet with everyone fast asleep.

All in all it was a wonderful day and we have some great photos, I would highly recommend. There were kids of all ages there enjoying the sledging and rides.

hope this helps!

We did it too, and could have written the post above! It was great, memorable, but super exhausting!!! Just make sure you are prepared with clothing and the fact it will be dark the entire time! Ours were 8 and 10 so were able to manage the long day and the cold. That was 4 years ago and they still talk about wanting to do it again!

We did it too, but I wouldn’t recommend the day trip unless it’s the only way you can do it. We had a special time whilst there (especially the husky ride) but the two journeys were too much really. I found some of the Santa and Elf stuff a bit over done and cheesy too, but maybe that’s just my taste. It was all very well organised though. Would love to go back for a few days some day.

We did it via tui several years ago and it was amazing.

Thanks so much! Really helpful to hear others’ experiences. I’m keen to do it this year as I think waiting any longer might make it less magical (although obviously my oldest (and possibly my youngest too 😭) doesn’t believe in FC any more). However it seems there is a lot more to it than just the Santa stuff

It is amazing. Did a day trip as I can’t get time off. We took hats with torches on them which was handy. The whole thing was great. Crew were all dressed up in Christmas jumpers. On our decent the captain announced there was a problem but Santa and his reindeer were on the way to help us land. Pilot “jerked “ the plane and told everyone that was Santa attaching himself to the plane to guide us in. Kids singing on the tannoy too. You can book it yourself. The “Santa villages” are about €100 a day and you can get flights to Finland.
