Christmas stockings - what have you bought so far?

SnowflakesandSlippers · Yesterday 15:48

I love preparing the Christmas stocking each year, it's one of my favourite jobs and so I tend to get it done early (and then try and stop myself buying anything else!)

So far for dd, who is nearly 8, I have got:

Mini brand surprise balls (pet and food)
Activity book
Reading books x 2
Rosalinda mini figure
Nutcracker chelsea doll
Marshmallow keyring
Koala teddy
Tamagotchi
Brain game - cats
Penguin pen
Gel pens
Nature colouring book
Lip balm
Mini bee revival kit
Minibrand backpack
Hair slides and hairband
Snake tshirt
Snake stickers

I will also buy something chocolatey and a Lush bath bomb.

Under the tree she will get a schleich stable with some horses and a bean bag and the pets are getting her the Minibrand fridge.

If you are as madly enthusiastic about the stocking as I am, what have you bought so far? Or, what do you plan to buy?

I'm now wondering if DH might also need a stocking this year...

I always do a stocking for my husband. Traditionally he gets chocolate coins, a Christmas decoration and socks with a few other bits. So far I have a three pack of Iron Maiden socks.

Younger dc age 6 and 8 so far I've got
Slime
Farting putty
Glowsticks
Fidgets

Toothbrush
Selection box
Gold coins
Hotwheels car
Lego figure blindbag
Lots of stickers
Wind up toys
Blu tac ( both love the stuff)
Pk of envelopes ( they write each other letters and post it under the doors)

Mine loves socks so that's a good plan.

Ah yes blu tack, always a favourite, I bought dd plasters one year and she was thrilled.

Lovely ideas here. Ours is more like a little sack i got years ago. I have a stack of mini pringles (think ten in a box)
Football gloves
Jerseys
Socks - nike

Have to get a few more things. Maybe a KFC or McDonalds voucher and sweets

GingerLeopard · Yesterday 16:09

Not much so far, but I do have a bit of list!

For DD6 it's her birthday right before Christmas - she's getting the mini brands fill the fridge for that, so I've ordered two of the surprise balls for that to go in her stocking. Also got her some crayola glitter pens in Tesco the other day.
Will also get:
chocolate coins
terry's chocolate orange
some sort of squishy - needoh if i can get my hands on one
Our Generation surprise lunch bag
Sylvanians surprise bag
notebook & pens

for DS7:
Pokémon cards (again if i can get my hands on them)
a fidget/squishy (will probably look in The Works)
Hot wheels car
gold coins
Terry's chocolate orange
a small torch
football cards/stickers
a card game
a surprise bag/ball of some description

With stockings I tend to buy things as i see them, so I'm sure there will end up being more than I've listed, but i like popping into somewhere like B&M and just seeing what they've got. Love doing their stockings!

I love the idea of a voucher for when she's a bit older.

It must be hard having to think of things for birthday and Christmas at the same time, although you can just buy anything you see and not worry it will be too much I suppose.

DD is 6. Not loads so far -

Couple of Yoto cards
Little Barbie purse/ bag chain with lip balm in it that I saw for £1 somewhere
Chocolate coins
Some chocolate dogs from M&S
A couple of books I picked up in the charity shop

I’ll also put in:

  • a card game of some kind, she doesn’t have top trumps yet so maybe that.
  • Knickers, socks, toothbrush and flavoured toothpaste, matey bubble bath and foam soap - required every year!
  • Various squishies, as much as I hate the things it’s the only thing she’s actually asked for!
  • Re-usable ice cubes, completely random but she was very jealous when she went to a friends house who had some and wanted to know where you get them. If anyone knows where I can find some fun shapes/ colours please let me know!

Last year she was up at 4.45!!! Sent back to bed but only managed till 5 before she had to start on the stocking (in our room) so what goes in there has to be entertaining enough to keep her going a while allowing DH and I to sit in bed a little longer whilst she opens/ plays with it all.

Exactly, Christmas or not, I need my cup of tea in the morning before I get up properly!

Stockings are one of my favourite parts of Christmas! So far, for 8 year old DS, I have:
Packets of seeds that spell out his (mercifully short!) name
A Eugy capybara
A small crystal making set

Also planning to get:
A small Lego set
A bottle of Mr Matey bubble bath (or similar)
A bag of lemon sherberts
A giant chocolate coin
A book or annual of some sort (probably the Beano annual)
Little art kit (set of pastels / charcoals, or similar)
Legami pen or two
Couple of packs of Pokemon cards

Always put in:
Bag of chocolate coins
Mini Lindt chocolate Santas, teddies and reindeer
Harry Potter chocolate frog
Christmas scratchcard
Satsuma
£2 coin

If he's looking a bit light once it's all wrapped up I might add in a biscuit cutter and a small game of some sort (eg Uno No Mercy, or similar), possibly some funny socks / pants.

He really wants a Nintendo Switch this year, which we are umming and ahhing about. If we do go for it he will probably get that plus a game or two and a couple of books / art supplies, but really not much else! Grandparents will probably get him a big Lego set, siblings probably more Lego / football related things.

Farmwifefarmlife · Yesterday 17:11

I’m trying to cut down on “stuff” so I’ve gone quite practical this year.
DD9
toothpaste
toothbrush
hair stuff
nail polish & nail art stuff
pens & colouring book
ready book
chocolate

DS 2 & 4
same but hot wheels cars & books instead of girly things.

I think in previous years I’ve gone overboard so I’m doing 10-12 stocking fillers

3-4 main presents & a couple of joint presents, board games and I’m going to give them each a “voucher” for a day out of their choosing. They will get a further 3/4 presents from family.
i always find it interesting as me & DH have different ideas so it’s interesting too see how much other people give.

Yes, I enjoy seeing how different people do it, I don't think there's a right or a wrong or a best way, as long as everyone is happy. I do go quite big on the stocking I think, but our mains feel fairly modest.

For DD nearly 4

Stocking
Character Toothbrush
Baby doll clothes
Travel magna tiles
Rory's story cubes
Go find it game
Chocolate coins
Chocolate santa
£1
Satsuma
Temporary tattoos

Main tree presents off us and a couple of relatives
Magnatiles ball run
Vet set with pet carrier
(Considering a white coat to go with this)
Small Playmobil playgroup set (first set so not sure if she's too young for the tiny pieces)
Enchanted wood book
Wooden icelollies to go with her existing ice-cream set
Gruffalo granny book
Lion king teddy and tshirt
Twistable crayons and colouring book
Magnetic jigsaw

Also considering

Big fabric butterfly wing
Fox money box
Melissa and Doug boo boos set

I keep switching between thinking she's got loads of presents but then when I look at it together it doesn't look like much

We only do stockings for the kids (DS 18 still loves a stocking and I’ll do them for as long as he wants one) me and DP don’t do them for each other.
dd14
so far
p Louise bad bitch energy juice box ( was bought as part of offer for 3 so basically only cost £7)
p Louise other set I got for a similar offer
touchland hand sanitiser
p Louise pimple patches
a adult colouring book
a book ( did I mention I love you)
a Christmas ty beanie
a pack of Lindor double choc balls
a pack of beautology bath salta
loungefly pins

still too get
lush bath bomb
£10 boots voucher

DS18
got so far
yoshi amiibo
chanisaw man vol 4 book
jujutsu kaisen tshirt
jujutsu kaisen badges
switch sports resort
lindt choc teddy
phantom busters book

still too get
lush bath bomb
waterstones voucher
hot sauce
terrys segsations pouch

I know to some this looks a bit pricey but that’s how we do it, I’d rather buy them small things they actually will use rather than plastic tat etc that breaks in 5 seconds. It’s all within the budget.

There's quite a cute squishmallow top trumps if she likes them, it is down to £3 on Amazon at the moment.

Tape measure is bound to go down well, I remember getting dd an egg timer a few years ago that she loved.

I know what you mean, it's trying to get the balance just tight isn't it. I like doing a fairly well filled stocking in our house because dd really loves all the little bits and will use them again and again. She never really puts anything very expensive on her list for under the tree, so for me it seems reasonable.

Yes it's important to choose things they'll use and continue to enjoy. Those spund lovely. When dd's older it will be more tricky I think, I don't really know much about what fashionable in make up etc - I'm guessing she'll let me know when we're at that stage! I'm far more at home with the bits and pieces she likes at this age though.
