The last 2 years Santa has brought ds a large in size present that is very indulgent and fun but not expensive, basically something I'd say no to if he asked but that also won't break the bank. One year it was a huge nerf style gun on a stand, another year a basketball arcade sort of game.

If anyone can think of anything I'd love some suggestions!

Lots of huge but cheap(ish) stuff in B&M today, depending on your budget and idea of cheap, and what he likes. Transformers, remote control cars, robot type things, giant plushies. £20-50 (maybe more than you wanted to pay?)

I don’t have a 7 year old, so I might be off the mark but sainsburys had what looked like a huge off brand nerf gun in the other day. The box was almost as big as me, and it was in the half price toy sale. They were stacked up at the front of the store.
hobbycraft have got cardboard colour in houses / cars / vans /castles that are pretty huge and down to £12.50 half price this week.
a basket ball hoop?
huge plushie?

I remember one year getting my daughter a huge bead kit to make bracelets from b&m I think it was - the packaging was absolutely ridiculous but it looked great all wrapped up. I also bought one of those plastic craft boxes with a handle with little sections in it so that I could sort the beads out!

Hobbycraft do giant colour in playhouses - currently half price! https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/kids/toys-games/colour-in-playhouses/

These are great. I bought a few different ones and put them away for the bit before Christmas when they're manic and can't settle to anything! Hours of fun colouring it and then playing in it.

There’s a really cool axe throwing set in Smyths. I got it for my friends daughters last year and they loved it.

When my DS was younger the “ big” in size gifts that went down well were:

basketball hoop
football net
table football - full size type but bought in Black Friday sale and a real bargain
huge beanbag that was bigger than me

Aw thanks everyone these are all great ideas! He is 8 right after Christmas but im lucky he still is loving crafting, colouring, playing in and out doors, etc. I know that sounds odd to say for a kid his age but anyone with the same age kids may have noticed a shift, theres a significant group of his peers whose mums say they don't really play 😔 and end up on screens at play dates and even birthday parties!

I'm happy to indulge his playfulness with a large silly toy every year that he wants one. 🙂

We have pop up tents. We've had a colour in igloo one year but maybe I could get a different one. Would be a nice indoor craft for the school hols too to do together. He has a giant cuddly toy he got recently with some money from his gran.

The inflatable boat really made me laugh.
I think he'd maybe like one of those punch bags on a stand. To be fair to him he's very easily pleased and would love most of these ideas.

A large cheap alternative to Lego set. My DC loved these growing up and the one big box was his only present. With a party tea each year.

What about a desk? There’s lots on marketplace near me, or Ikea a does lots. Maybe with a lamp and some cart and craft/colouring/painting things?

A big den-building box could be fun, with sheets, chunky clips and a torch. He could turn it into a shop, spaceship or reading hideout rather than one fixed toy. You could use spare bedding you already have and let him make the signs.

Pop up two man tent........great fun and it's something he'll use as a den or whatever. Hell I'd even wrap the thing.
