Anyone know if such a thing exists? A cross stitch advent calendar, where you make something each day?

My DM in her 80s cares for my disabled ddad who has dementia. She has found embroidery and cross stitch relaxing and has enjoyed doing one recently. I’d like to get her an advent calendar that gives her a project to do every day as she’s getting very anxious about Christmas, but all the ones I’ve found are mini ones which would just take her minutes. I have no clue about things like this and also don’t knew what she’d do with the finished product(s) but think the process would help her. If anyone has any suggestions I’d be very grateful! Thanks.

I had a look at the hobby craft one and it’s on my list but I think the daily items might be a bit small and easy for her so they’ll be done a bit too quickly. It’s the best one I’d seen! Not heard of Make box so will check that out! Thanks.

I’ve got one from caterpillar crafts this year, it’s not a kit every day, but by the end of the month it’s supplies for several projects. just checked and it’s out of stock.

How about getting 24 items yourself and making your own adventure calendar? Just get a big sheet of cardboard and 24 boxes to wrap numbered?
that would be a lovely gift

If you search for embroidery advent calendar, there are quite a few online.

Have seen a Cath kidston one advertised online.

Do you cross stitch OP? I'm not being sarky, just that I've done a lot of cross stitch through my life and the Hobbycraft set looks like it would take at least a few hours for each picture from start to finish. They can look small but do take a while to sew ❤️

jocktamsonsbairn · 24/10/2026 17:53

Thank you so much! If it would take a couple of hours for each one then that’s exactly what I want! I just looked at it and thought they looked small and (to my untrained eye) easy! That’s why I needed expert advice! Thank you. I’ll probably go with that one if you think it will take her some time. Just need something to give her some joy and keep her busy in the long days and evenings as she is currently dreading the build up to Christmas.
Apologies to anyone I’ve pissed off who was trying to help, it’s been a very difficult day. Didn’t mean to sound ungrateful, I just needed someone to tell me I had no idea of how hard these things are and say this one is what you need!

They do look like fairly simple straightforward designs, but as another poster said, they’d take even an experienced stitcher a couple of hours each. I wouldn’t expect to get through one of those in an evening. Cross stitch is slow work!

Ah I'm so glad it helped 🙂 sending you love OP, I'm sure it's hard for you as well as your Mum, and you're a lovely daughter wanting to make things easier for her ❤️❤️

There is such a thing I have seen them in Hobbycraft and online on Amazon and eBay 😁

Stitchonomy has small pattern stitchalongs each year. The current one is free to sign up for: https://stitch-along.com/#sal-calendar

You can buy the older ones and print the patterns for her and fill up an advent calendar, if she does not go online:

Those hobbycraft ones would take over two hours each, so would be perfect for you.

I saw some lovely ones in TK Maxx for a really good price. Can’t guarantee they’ll be in every store though! As a fellow cross stitcher, I also really enjoyed an advent jigsaw if that’s an alternative x

It's embroidery rather than cross-stitch, but the Corinne Lapierre advent calendar (different one each year) is lovely. They also have a very supportive facebook group for the sewalong should that appeal.

This year's hasn't been released yet, but these are a few of the previous ones:

Oh that’s lovely and she does love embroidery too. I might look at their non Christmas ones for her Christmas! Keep her busy all year. I have ordered the hobbycraft one to see how she gets on with it. Thank you all for some lovely ideas. Kind of wish I had the talent and desire to do this!

Not an advent calendar but thinking of Christmas gifts you mile like the look of these for her - you see a little bit each day based on the temperature and can get lots of different designs.
