Hi my kids now late teens have never had a stocking . I never had one as a child either . I want to do it this year but not kill myself financially . So what sort of things do you put in it? When do you give it ? Please not anyone who spends over 50 pounds ?

Chocolate coins, a satsuma (obviously this is never wanted, eaten or a appreciated, but in it goes!), socks, a toothbrush, a few little puzzle/fidget things and for my husband a speciality stout.

Tulipvase · 19/10/2026 18:52

In our house, only the stockings were from Father Christmas, so I would always put one more expensive or wanted present in it.

Assuming they don’t still believe, you won’t need to worry about that! I add a mix of useful stuff, socks, pants, toiletries and then some nice crisps, or sweets and maybe a book. A little Lego set? Something a bit gimmicky. Pack of cards etc.

Aviarythebird · 19/10/2026 18:54

My young adult children like Asian snacks, nice shampoo/hair stuff, socks, pants, American sweets, maybe a card game, nano blocks set, power banks. that sort of thing.

Tiredforfive45 · 19/10/2026 18:55

For us stockings are for ‘nice’ versions of practical things and edibles: Chocolate orange, toiletries/ make up, puzzle book/ magazine, tube of sweets, scratch card, nice stationery, socks, hair accessories etc

OneNewEagle · 19/10/2026 18:55

i do £15 or under ones, some sort of sweets or a chocolate bar (£1) satsuma, paperback (try to find a reduced one don’t spend more than £3), slimline calendar or diary (£5 max), shower gel (£1) posh soap (tk maxx under £3), toothbrush (£1). Some sort of novelty thing or a pen or pencil.

if you’ve never had them before it won’t matter what goes in,

NerrSnerr · 19/10/2026 18:57

We have chocolate coins. A card game (top trumps or an uno game usually), socks, a Lego poly bag and a few others things

PearlsTeapot · 19/10/2026 18:57

Pants
Socks
Toothbrush
Chocolate Coins
Mine are teens so get vouchers for Steam and Greggs and Starbucks
Anything small and silly and gimmicky
An ice cream personalised spoon
Japanese sweets
scratch card
powerbank

Top 4 are essential!

Greatexpect · 19/10/2026 18:57

Do you mean you want to do one for your teens? I have things like scented candles, chocolate, socks, some Poundland novelty Christmas things, nail scissors, tweezers, pens, post its, can of cocktail, miniature baileys, energy drink, keyrings, lip gloss, mini toiletries, nail varnish, notepad, fridge magnet, squishy, etc etc

These are a mix of what I do for my teen and husband (and what my husband does for me)

tomorrowfollowstoday · 19/10/2026 18:58

A mix of useful and fun.

Pack of mini playing cards.
Chocolate
Soft drink
Other snacks
Socks
Hat/gloves
Book
Small game
Shower gel
Pen
Stationery
Art supplies
Magazine
Puzzle book

Summerishere123 · 19/10/2026 18:58

Small games like uno, cards, etc. Toiletries, sweets and chocolate.
Stationary, hair accessories, power banks, lipgloss/balm, socks.
I try not to spend more than £30 so would pick a selection of these not all of them. Girls are easier as you can use things like nail polish, lip gloss and hair stuff which really helps.

CombatBarbie · 19/10/2026 18:58

A wanted gift, if it will fit. Otherwise, satsuma, tube of sweets, perfume, and any other Nik nak items I see when shopping. I have girls so easier, bath bombs etc

Bunfighter · 19/10/2026 18:59

Chewing gum
Toothbrush
Nailbrush
Nail clippers
Tweezers
Pen
Rubber
Lip balm
Hair bobble
Flannel
Post it notes
Deck of cards
Key ring
Mini toiletries of any kind
Bouncy ball
Fidget/squishes
Chocolate orange
Big tubes of sweets
Choc coins
Nuts in shells
Fruit
Literally anything that fits in abd probably £5 would be the absolute maximum id ever spend on a stocking item

mumumental · 19/10/2026 19:04

I’ve always done a stocking and they have always followed this formula just with age appropriate gifts. My dcs are now late teen and a young adult, I do the following;
chocolate coins
terrys chocolate orange, instead of a satsuma.
socks.
nice shower gel and body spray.
Lego mini figure
novelty pen
i usually get a small game or fidget toy.
Favourite chocolate orange snack.
some sort of skincare.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/10/2026 19:18

I do Dec 1st Boxes for mine but similar contents to a lot of these suggestions

I do pants and socks for DS (otherwise he'd happily run about in one with holes in them )
DD likes named things like CK or Victoria Secret.

£1 coin dispenser (holds £15 worth )

Pyjamas / lounge wear

Nail polish for DD

Korean beauty items

DS has Lush Kalamazoo

Sweets/chocolate

Phone charger cables

I'm getting ideas from this thread thank you

whippersnapper55 · 19/10/2026 19:21

I would do pants, socks, toiletries, pack of cards or some silly game (home bargains have them v cheap) chocolate/sweets that they like, maybe Christmas coffee or tea if they like it?

Needmorelego · 19/10/2026 19:24

My daughter is 18 but she still likes old favourites because it's (her quote) "traditional".
To her this means...
A Hot Wheels car
A Sylvanian Family single figure
A packet of Pokémon cards
Cute Stickers
😂
I usually do those plus things like novelty bubble bath, novelty snacks/sweets, socks, pants, a paperback book, mini jigsaws, cute stationary.

parietal · 19/10/2026 19:25

I only buy items that cost under £5 and that includes a magazine (rolled up), socks, fidget toys, bath bomb, sweets, keyring etc. I have 2 dc and always buy things in pairs so it is fair.

leesmum · 19/10/2026 19:38

My DS's are 19 and 21 and in theirs they have

Face wash
Hair stuff
Christmas socks
Choc orange
Chocolate coins
Pen with offensive quotes
Boxers
Scratch card/lotto ticket
Mini monocular
Nail clippers
Mini aftershave
Bottle Christmas lager
Unusual crisps/ popcorn
Tub of dried scotch bonnet 😛oldest loves chillies

Overpacker82 · 19/10/2026 19:41

Do people wrap the stocking presents out of interest?

leesmum · 19/10/2026 19:46

I don't wrap stocking fillers

TwoGingerEars · 19/10/2026 19:51

I wrap each thing in coloured tissue paper. Opening a present is part of the excitement!

PearlsTeapot · 19/10/2026 19:52

I wrap! Takes forever so gives me time to drink my coffee and wake up! We always open them in my bed, even the teens.

Yupstillhere · 19/10/2026 19:54

Yes wrap them, it's fun unwrapping them.

Flying Tiger, Primark, Poundland and Home a Bargains are good for stocking presents.

Yes mine bring theirs into our bed to open, my favourite part of Christmas day x
