I'm after some 80s / 90s coloured lights that had a petal shape bulb ?

they remind me of my Nan and I really wish I'd of thought to keep hold of them after she died .

Has anyone seen any ?

Oh we had some of those on our tree as a child I’ve never been able to find a modern equivalent x

tomorrowfollowstoday · 17/10/2026 20:09

Oh yes these were lovely. Sorry no idea if they can still be bought.

BaobhanSith · 17/10/2026 20:09

Have you looked on Vinted? Try searching retro vintage Christmas lights, someone will have some.

olivietolivie · 17/10/2026 20:14

Trago Mills has them

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 17/10/2026 20:41

They usually sell a selection of vintage style lights in Aldi - we have the petal type ones from there.

Forton26 · 17/10/2026 20:44

I think some places make modern versions.

But if you remember the originals where a bulb would go and it would take forever to find each one 🙈.

Id also be very careful about using something/buying something electric of that age.

Here's a retro version at Argos.....

The noma pickwicks/canterbury bellles are the closest I've managed to find

JontyGentoo · 17/10/2026 21:57

I’ve got the Canterbury bells and petal shaped lights that I got from Aldi a couple of years ago. They remind me of the ones we had when I was a kid from Woolworths 😊. One set will do a 5ft tree but 2 sets for a bigger tree. They had them in last year so presume they will have them again this year.

JontyGentoo · 18/10/2026 06:19

I know I commented last night but thought I’d add a pic so you could see how they look on a tree. This is a 6ft tree so needed 2 lots of the tree lights. Bought a 7ft tree last year and the 2 sets were still enough.

I did buy a set of those Cinderella coach lights a few years ago from eBay and one year one of the bulbs melted one of the coaches so I’d be wary of buying the original 80/90s lights.

I got some really lovely ones last from Aldi of all places. I think I paid £4 for a set of 50 battery powered ones, hoping they have them again this year as I want some more !

The problem with the modern retro lights is they haven’t got the right colours. The old ones had red, green, turquoise green/blue, acid pink, orange. The overall colour tone they gave off was completely different. I have searched for them for years but never found them. In the end I coloured the bulbs of a set of white lights with sharpies but they don’t have flower petals. I have one string that I got from my mum but it has only about 10 bulbs on.

charity shops or vinted maybe, but I imagine charity shops chuck them because they would need to PAT test them.

I bought some genuine vintage 80s ones on eBay about 5 years ago - I’m just very careful with them and fully unplug them at night/when not on! They’re still going strong, I don’t use them all the time.

Kittkats · 18/10/2026 09:21

NOMO seems to have the right colours, I just ordered some!

TheGardenPond · 18/10/2026 09:34

I found some by scouring Amazon and then found the exact same ones at the local garden centre a few days later! They aren’t exactly the right petal shapes but the colours are right. Try a big garden centre.

Thank you all ❤️

The LEDs are also bright, they don’t have the soft muted tones of the electric ones. I’ve been wanting to recreate the muted look of the tree from The Snowman for years but I just don’t think they exist!

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 18/10/2026 18:08

I bought some about 6 years ago in a local hardware store…if I remember correctly they’re called incandescent lights? They were exactly like the ones from the 80’s and theyre my favourites! I saw some multicoloured lights with shades this year in home bargains, and snapped them up but they’re not the same, they’re just bright LEDs with shades. And like pp’s have said, the problem with the newer ones is that they don’t have the same colours - no pinks or orange-y yellow, and don’t give that cosy glow… They’re too stark!
