Don't all shout at me at once...where can I get some properly nice, thick, tinsel?

Yes, I know lots don't like it! No, I don't give a fuck what your opinion of tinsel is! Yes, I will also google but sometimes a recommendation is useful! No, I still don't want to hear how much you hate the stuff! I also dgaf if you want to rain on my sparkly, tinsel infused Christmas...if you do...fuck of to the far side of fuck...then fuck off some more 😊.

Right, now that's done, I'd like to know where to get properly chunky, thick, strands of tinsel. I have two I was sure came from my dad - he says not & I can't think of anyone else who'd have given it to me 🤷‍♀️. The Range has some piddly thin stuff, so does the festive shop in town, & I don't really want to risk buying online to be disappointed.

Thanks!

I love a bit of tinsel!
The best ones I've got were from John Lewis & House of Fraser. My mum bought them about 35 years ago and then gave them to me when she culled her decorations. They still look like new.
On to something that might be useful, a couple of years ago I bought some lovely thick, good quality, fluffy stuff from Paperchase. It's deep green with tinsel holly leaves. It's gorgeous. Our local store closed down but I've noticed their products stocked in Tesco.
I've seen some chunky strands in TK Maxx/Homesense so that might be worth a look.

Home bargains or b and m have had some really thick stuff in previous years.
If you can't find any I'll post you some.... I've got bags of ite🤣
Also have a look in the charity shops.... they might have some in.
Good luck OP....may the tinsel gods forever be in your favour

I got some in John Lewis. A few years ago now, but I've seen the same type in there every year since too.

John Lewis has ‘chunky tinsel’ which looks quite thick

If you have a local garden centre try there

JellyOnMyShoe · 17/10/2026 20:25

Watching! Bonus points if it smells like tinsel used to smell!😊

What did it smell of?

Christmas magic! 🎄 ( sort of like cheap plastic crossed with chocolate coins).

Edited to add, my local garden centre is jam packed with tinsel in every colour.

SaraHoliday · 17/10/2026 21:04

John Lewis and B&M have it!

TheSquareMile · 17/10/2026 21:23

Selfridge's have some unusual tinsel garlands, OP.

Autumnalhibernationisthedream · 17/10/2026 21:25

It’s honestly luck- some garden centres will have lovely tinsel and you’ll be out and about and suddenly find it! Good luck though!!

lucysmam · 18/10/2026 08:50

Right, garden centre is easiest after Tesco, so I'll see if my dad's free for a nip out one afternoon after work. I want some slate anyway to finish a bit of garden.

If not, I'll try Selfridges and JL online...or send dd1 & she can bring it back if it's chunky enough!
