This is what my kid wants for Christmas despite having loads of unpainted sets. Any tips on what to buy and where to buy it? It’s so expensive!!

Look on etsy for non branded stuff. Its game legal.

If they didn't give you any specific information at all, and have lots of stuff that isn't painted, then I wouldn't be buying more models for them.

Terrain (games workshop branded or 3rd party), cool/unusual dice, etc. would be good general gifts that warhammer players would use.

A battle mat maybe? Or a transit box so they can take their pieces with them and paint or play elsewhere? (DH & DS go to several shops and pub gaming evenings, we have a lot of Warhammer transport options in our house!)

DS14 madly into Warhammer too.
So far for his stocking he has themed dice -Stormcast Eternals for AoS and Blood Angels for 40k.
a citadel water pot
Games Workshop tape measure.
Brush cleaner.
in the past a painting handle and a craft magnifier/ light have gone down well.
He likes Warhammer books and has various T shirts eg “Geek life- it’s like normal life but with space marines” and hoodies eg “Eats, sleeps, Warhammers, repeats”.
