Main present for 9 year old girl

Perhaps it is a sign of my DD having too much stuff already, but she never really asks for things. So I am stumped for what to buy her this year. What are you buying your 9 year old girls please? Desperate for inspiration!

She does want a Nintendo switch as she tried it at a friend’s house, but I don’t want to buy her something that increases screen time usage until she is a little older.

She has never had any interest in dolls, and she already has what feels like 100 squishmallows. She already has a bunch of the “big ticket” items I associate with Christmas gifts, like a bike, a Yoto, and roller skates.

We have bought concert tickets and last year she had a zoo keeper experience that she loved.

Favouritefruits · 08/10/2026 09:37

you can put timers on the Nintendo switch, we allow two hours a week if that changed things for you. There’s a huge GuiGui set that seems popular at the moment. Are there any clothes she would like? What sort of things is she into? crafts, Toys, slime???

Swissmeringue · 08/10/2026 10:02

DD (8) doesn't need any of the standard big ticket items, her bike, scooter, rollerblades etc all fit so I think we're going to go experiences rather than things. Cirque du soleil are at the royal Albert hall in January so we're getting tickets for that and either DH or I will take her. She also wants a digital watch, apparently the baby G is back! And maybe some walkie talkies she can use with DS or her friends.

We got her a Kindle and some headphones for her birthday, she uses it loads both for reading and audio books as the kids kindle comes with an audible subscription, she also has a mighty player which is great because she can make playlists on Spotify on our laptops, then download them to her mighty player so she's got her own music

A zoo keeper experience sounds great. I’ll look into that. Thank you!

I partly just don’t want the almost inevitable row or begging for more time when the timer ends! I would prefer to wait until she is 10 or 11 and she is a little more mature before we go down that road.

In terms of what she is into, she is obsessed by Harry Potter so I have some HP themed bits. (Have already taken her to the studio so tickets for that wouldn’t work.)

She loves reading, playing the piano, singing, horse riding (though she only does it a few times a year), some crafting (though can get bored quickly) but mostly likes spending time with her friends. Possibly because she is an only child. She is unbothered about her looks or clothes (which I am quite pleased about as she seems less self conscious than some girls in her year.)

I should say that she is always thrilled and grateful for all the gifts she gets so even if she perhaps does have too much stuff such that it is hard to know what to buy, she is not showing signs of being spoilt or ungrateful.

My young 10 year old has asked for a karaoke machine (the joys)

Also planning on getting her a bubble tea kit from bubble panda, a pile of graphic novels and the cosy plants lego when its released in november.

I also got her an anxiety reduxing jellyfish lamp from amazon on deal yesterday.

She seems to be in her cosy era, but not skincare / make up etc

She has asked for sone monster high dolls aswell, but will obviously be of no interest to your daughter

Hoping for inspiration for my 8.5yo DD. I think what she would love is a mountain of cuddly toys to add to her mountain of cuddly toys and fidget toys/squishies! Thoughts so far are…

Giant care bear plush (requested!)
Build-a-bear wardrobe with outfits inside
Clickeez keyboard
3D sticker maker
Magic set
Legami pens
Art and craft supplies
Horrible Histories game

Suggestions for your DD
Karaoke machine
Harry Potter calligraphy set (with parchment paper and stamps)
Depending on how good her piano playing is, maybe a music book for Harry Potter music or other music she likes
Harry Potter trivial pursuit

Thanks for these ideas. For those suggesting a karaoke machine for their child or mine - we got her one last year. She loves it, but a word of warning, they are so loud! I wish I had tried it out first and got one with much lower volume. The spec and reviews said the volume was adjustable and it is apparently quieter than others - but even at the lowest setting it’s louder than I’d prefer.

I wasn’t aware of a child specific kindle though and that could be a good shout. It’s definitely on the potential gift list so thank you.

He's not a girl but the presents are quite unisex so my 8 year old is getting a bean bag for his bedroom as a physically 'big' gift also getting a light up globe.

MyManinCaracas · 08/10/2026 17:20

Perhaps a few moderately priced items, so that there’s no “main” gift surrounded by cheap stuff but a few nice things that don’t cost the earth.

SnowflakesandSlippers · 08/10/2026 20:14

I don't know if you have any of the illustrated Potter books but the latest one (half blood prince) came out today

Boopsi · 10/10/2026 10:24

My daughter asked for a remote controlled airplane today. She rarely asks for anything so this could be a winner. She also mentioned a Sphero coding ball she tried out at school and loved in passing yesterday. So if she is still keen on either in a month’s time, one of those will be her main gift!

I'm trying to expand the things she already has to reignite the interest in those rather than get more of something else. For example, accessories for her dolls, add ons for her craft sets etc. Also getting stuff she needs for her room. You mentioned loads of squishmellows, I am getting DD one of these to contain the millions of teddies she has. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Caossuixin-Storage-Stuffed-Organizer-Playroom/dp/B0FHWFFC44/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=3GXZEP77B8JWB&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.WXlsPBhlyugoofNoxaJoB7HKtPCmvAb_A2AjCMsZaEU9zRwpX2VYZ5DtPHqR6T-QknM01-2i9zKKUBd__yGOVZww-DcJijmm6WIS2RE6EYn9cRorYYK1nXjev4yLsP7eYGJJlLVnR_SlYmyVPXKNIp95cIHocvgdWIkMfZWDP6BBbyHiz8BO1E3_ZfRswMWuko6Gz3az7B5Oxs9OpU4pGP0uiQm9Xzv9EpbXZsnomxU2HYqN8NsjYzidGX6qVTeMqRKIA6XQK1gzBeiVmtMr_8d3HefMN87gMJ4d4uVx6xU.vo3_JVLymN9gkxgB7xhgZmkuuDrxkkT39CwBsXg8pFQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=teddy+jail.&qid=1792443038&sprefix=teddy+jail.%2Caps%2C205&sr=8-2-spons&aref=YkVCkGr8Pe&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1
