Hi

Whats everyone getting their boys for main presents? If you do mains.

Hes got an ipad, scooter, not interested in a bike.
Uses his dad’s PS5 if he wants but he’s never on it.

Into Minecraft and I’ve bought stuff for that but there’s nothing for a big present from that.

I’ve asked him but he has no idea 🙃

We've got our son a switch 2 if it helps. Huge mario fan x

Latenightreader · 06/10/2026 17:49

Lego? There are minecraft themed sets.

purpleflurple · 06/10/2026 19:40

does he like constructing stuff?

lego?
gravitrax?
beanbag?

MagicThanks · 06/10/2026 19:42

I think a golf club and chipping net. He’s mad on football but has goals etc.

ILoveCatsAndKittens · 06/10/2026 20:34

Came on to say I’m in the same position!

he loves Pokemon and wants alllllllll of the Lego Pokemon sets, but I can’t justify hundreds of pounds as he doesn’t really like Lego! He has a sonic set from 2 years ago still unopened (which he asked for) and two mega blocks Pokemon sets also unopened.

he has a bike already which like your son mine isn’t interested in either, has an iPad, he got a scooter last year which he loves, he has a Nintendo switch, loves his Yoto player, an Xbox and PlayStation I feel he wouldn’t play any of the games, he has a football goal in the garden already and also a go cart type ride on.

no advice sorry, just moral support as you’re not alone in this!! ;)

Needmorelego · 06/10/2026 20:38

He doesn't need to have a "big" present if there's nothing particular he wants.
If you've got Minecraft stuff for him then just give him that.

Beyblades and arena?
Remote control monster truck type thing
Drone
Basketball hoop
Hot wheels set

ILoveCatsAndKittens · 06/10/2026 20:41

I found with Beyblades that my son got fed up of them as they fall off the trigger thing really easily, they’re quite tricky to handle. He got some with birthday money this year and haven’t been played with as can’t do it himself.

Thisusernameisalwaysavailable · 06/10/2026 20:47

Scalextric
Nerf gun

Wallabyone · 06/10/2026 20:55

We will probably go for an experience for our 8 year old. He’s just had a birthday and doesn’t need anything big. I might go for theatre tickets.

@ILoveCatsAndKittensIts so hard isn’t it!
we also have all of those.

this morning he’s asked for a printer for his iPad 😂💀 I’ll take that as I’m doing my own head in trying to think.

thanks everyone, will look into other suggestions for things

Someone on the bargains thread said that their child had asked for a laminator. Could be something to go with the printer for your son? I think they are around £15.

Amazing thank you! He’d love that.

We are in a similar position. With a birthday 2 weeks before 🙄

We've upgraded his tablet (current one was bought about 6 years ago for a hospital stay is getting a bit iffy when charging) which will probably be for Christmas. Also got some Lego (he makes and then plays with the lego city sets), a sonic game for the PS4 (the one thing hes asked for for his birthday). Also got a few new board and card games which hes very in to currently. May get some more playmobil bits. Plus the usual books etc.

Mine is young for his age and will.still happily play with his playmobil/dolls house etc. Up until this year he was still asking for things like Brio, but he's definitely getting tricker to buy for now he has the "big ticket" items that will last for several years!

I want to get him a drum kit but my husband said no, party pooper!

ILoveCatsAndKittens · 07/10/2026 16:48

Oh @HikingHippo my sons birthday is 3 weeks after Christmas, isn’t it hard?!

you’re brave getting a drum kit!! My son has a guitar which he’s had for years off grandpa but it’s sat in a cupboard not played with. I can’t get rid though as grandpa would be disappointed as he’s a real guitar enthusiast

Hes been having lessons for about 2 years and has an electric kit, but prefers the real thing in his lessons!

idontknow54789 · 07/10/2026 17:29

On my list are a balance wobble board, sushi making kit, cook book from his favourite chef, board games and probably plenty of Lego! Not all from us just a list of ideas.

Julynian · 07/10/2026 17:29

I don’t know when the concept of a “big” present came in. We just had a small collection of presents. Some were bigger or smaller in physical size. Some cost more, some less.

But to help your post along, if there’s nothing special asked for, what about a trip somewhere? Legoland? Theme park? Some sort of experience gift.

idontknow54789 · 07/10/2026 17:30

And maybe an mp3 player, but I might save this for another year

Autumnalhibernationisthedream · 07/10/2026 17:37

If he’s only 8 I’d agree something musical could be great, a keyboard or a harmonica. My son used to love kinetic sand, Lego and knex.

@ILoveCatsAndKittensdo you have a link for the bargains thread please? I’m usually following but unorganised this year

Mine has one of these, well, its a streaming player linked to my Spotify account where he has his own (eclectic!) playlist. Its like a 2020s version of an pod touch. He loves it. I love the headphones that I bought to go with it.

LittleGreenShoots · 07/10/2026 19:30

My son was really excited by a sewing machine at this age!

Sunshineclouds11 · 07/10/2026 19:31

@HikingHippoHis birthday is also 2 weeks before 🙈🙈
thankfully sorted for that but it does make Xmas harder
