Has anyone started stocking up on Christmas food?

So today I bought a tub of quality street and some pigs in blankets. I like to try and buy extra bits weekly so it’s not a massive outgoing nearer Christmas. Only thing now is having to avoid the quality street until Christmas 😂
Anyone else started the Christmas food shop?

I have my Bonne Maman jam advent calendar

Pickledonion1999 · 26/09/2026 20:59

I bought a tin of the M&S big one chocolates at an M&S at a motorway service station last week just because they always sell out and we never mange to get any !

Ophy83 · 26/09/2026 21:05

Just the dried fruit for the Christmas cake which is now soaking in rum

I have never managed to get any, hoping to be lucky this next week!

We did have a tin of the S’more Munch but opened it already and now there’s just a few broken bits left. Last year I kept the empty Munch tins as I think the refill packs are about £3 cheaper?

I do have four bottles of Schloer and a jar of red onion chutney stashed away. I’ve been somewhat distracted by the MN threads regarding an emergency supply of water and food for three days so that’s been my focus just lately rather than Christmas.

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 26/09/2026 22:33

I bought the M&S big chocolate tin last week as I couldn’t get one last year.
Bought the ingredients and made Christmas cakes.
Pomegranate Turkish Delight
3 flavours of Lindor
Ordered turkey, nut roast and the veg pack from M&S to pick up on Xmas Eve.

Temporaryname158 · 26/09/2026 22:45

Heck I hadn’t thought about this.

presents- I have started and am in fact probably 40% done

this thread has got me thinking and I’ll keep an eye out now for non perishable items that I can stock up on, I find spreading the cost really helps

No, we don't really buy extra christmas food!

These threads every year make me realise the same! We go all out for Christmas Day but we make all the treats and go away the day after Boxing Day so don’t want any excess of stuff hanging around for new year.
When we have get togethers before Christmas we make the food/snacks.
Maybe we sound really boring 😂 I mean if someone brings round a tub of celebrations before Christmas I put them out but nothing seems to taste as good as it used to so lots of them get ignored and binned anyway, it’s just wasteful for us.
I used to love a chocolate orange but they just taste greasy and waxy now so I don’t even bother with one of those any more. Now that is sad 😭

SummerBlueskies · 27/09/2026 07:47

I still need to get advent calendars but I’ll do that at some point this week.
It helps that DH doesn’t know that I’ve bought quality street so for now they remain untouched 😂.
Im trying to be as organised as I can this year, presents wise I’ve bought some for my granddaughter, my kids are adults apart from DD who’s 11 so I usually give them money/vouchers unless they ask for something specific. DD 11 has requested a main present which is quite expensive so she’ll be getting that plus a few little bits to unwrap

I live among gannets so there’s just no point! Last year we saw big boxes of J2o on offer so stocked up on those, the teens kept taking them! I should have put them in the loft really but there you go.

onwardandupwards · 27/09/2026 07:53

Picked up a tin of merry munch, ate the tin of merry munch 😂

ShowOfHands · 27/09/2026 07:59

I do every year. I add a couple of things to my main shop from September. Nobody touches it as it's for December. It wouldn't even occur to anybody to eat food which isn't for now.

I've bought twiglets, treeslets, a very fancy Christmas pudding which was on offer (though I'll make one for the actual day) and some crackers for cheese. I think DH has bought some drinks as well.

itstoolateforsnacks · 27/09/2026 08:21

I’ve done it before and chocolate can’t stay safe when bought so early. I have made chutney and Christmas spiced preserved pears, so far.

Topbird29 · 27/09/2026 19:42

Aldi had their Xmas bits in this week, so got some apple stollen bites - am sure will need at least one more pack! Also a couple of white chocolate oranges in co op. Will be in a M&S in a couple of weeks so will check out their tins then. Will prob start adding other bits to the shopping each week now...

MabelsBeats · 27/09/2026 19:58

I’ve bought the Christmas pudding and have put in an order at M&S for food to collect on 23rd December. No one has any presents yet though!

ImogenBrocklehurst · 27/09/2026 20:36

I bought some mince pies and stollen. Pies have been eaten, two pieces of stollen left, so not going well really.

MatronPomfrey · 27/09/2026 20:50

I save up nectar points for the December food shops. I don’t buy tubs of sweets because DCs get plenty as gifts. I will get the Christmas cake ingredients pack soon. Always buy the chocolate oranges for stockings when they’re on offer.

Minidollop · 27/09/2026 23:47

Yes I’ve bought a box of mint chocs today, my sister in law was with me and was a bit shocked but it helps spread the cost.
To be fair, she always spends Christmas with her parents and none of them go overboard on the treats.
I’ll buy something every week now - box of crackers, Xmas pud etc

mondaytosunday · 28/09/2026 01:42

If I start now it will be eaten long before Christmas! So no I’ve just started stocking up on Halloween sweets (I get about 200 kids a year).

NotARealWookiie · 28/09/2026 09:24

We’ve bought 3 boxes of quality streets - and eaten them!

LoftyPlumLion · 28/09/2026 12:07

No but I've decided I'm going to cook a veggie crumble for Christmas dinner.

I may have already demolished 3 packs of chocolate coins too.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 28/09/2026 12:16

Not yet, but I'm keeping my eye out for a dark Chocolate Orange to put away. Why are they so difficult to find?!

Givemeausernamepls · 28/09/2026 12:23

I have a high up Xmas shelf. But I haven’t started buying just yet tho as I tend to not go in on Xmas until November 1st…

You all sound like experts, so any advice on good dupes in Aldi for some of the m and s stuff?

TheSquareMile · 28/09/2026 12:36

CleanSkin · 25/09/2026 23:47

@BIWI would you mind sharing your posset recipe please?
I know they’re relatively simple but I don’t have a trusted recipe - if it’s a classic in your house, I’m guessing you can write it from memory! Thank you.

Meanwhile, I’m also getting cake ingredients in; crikey the price of dried fruit & nuts this year!!

This one looks good, @CleanSkin
