Are anyone else’s DC squishy obsessed?

My older two Dc’s (9&7) are obsessed with Needoh’s and squishies. That’s pretty much all they’ve put on their Christmas lists. Are anyone else’s DC like this and if so, how many is getting? Genuinely think mine would be happy with 20 squishies each and that’s it!

My DD is like this. I hate them. There is a risk of them bursting and burning the skin if you buy fakes ones. If I feel kind she might get one in her stocking.

Banned in my house. Most are toxic. But yes my kids bloody love them. They understand now that I won’t ever allow them in the house.

Completely. Want more squishies than could ever be used by one child. We’ve indulged to some extent but put a limit on it. If they want any more now they need to buy them with their own money.

Yes yes and yes!

9 & 12yo both have them on their lists. I’ve said no to the advent calendar after 9yo wasn’t paying attention and bit into one of the liquid ones. I’ve agreed to get them the non liquid ones. I haven’t decided on how many but probably a couple each.

What do they do with them?

I live outside of the UK, and these types of toys have been sold in our typical gift/toy shop for years.. and kids want them occasionally but then get board of them pretty quick, because you can't actually do much with them can you?

They get dirty/ruined real quick if they touch things.. break easily, aren't really part of a game/story etc.

I get crazes don't need logic to function, but I'm just wondering what kids are doing with so many (for example from the advent calendar)

Yep, my 8 year old currently isn't talking to me because my showed her the needoh advent calendar and asked her if she wanted it without checking with me first. There's absolutely bugger all chance I'm putting up with an extra 24 squishies in the house so it was a hard no.

I'm mean, and everyone else has 11,357 squishies apparently. She will get a couple but I don't want loads of them lying around.

Sunshineclouds11 · 26/09/2026 20:26

My DS wanted loads and thankfully school mentioned them in an assembly when it was in the news about a girl getting burnt off one popping.
He’s never asked since.

Can't edit but that should say my mum showed her the advent calendar!

I askedmy cousin what his daughter was into for her birthday in the summer, he sent me a link to a squishy making kit on Amazon so that is what I got for her. Tbh I don't know what they are but that's what she wanted.

housethatbuiltme · 28/09/2026 12:06

My sons birthday in 2 weeks and all he asked for was the Mystery Dumpling. Going to buy it every shop was packed with parents buying it as well, I guess its the current 'hot' thing.

Mine haven't asked for a Needoh but they would probably love it.

I just don't get this one. My own kids have had the odd one here and there for years and they were vaguely engaging but not interesting enough to want loads of the same thing. Obviously that's sort of how crazes work and kids will want to collect anything that gets big, but these seem so... dull! I cant imagine forgoing all other Christmas gifts for endless squishes, especially as they all seem to end up bursting or filthy!

tbf I dont know if it the fact they are both autistic or not but my oldest and youngest have both always attracted to squishy type things. They have never 'asked' for them but something about the sticky squishy texture just seems to mesmerize and attract them and they'll just fiddle with it for hours.

My middle child that asked for the dumpling though isn't really attracted to touching textures at all so is probably just following the trend. He is the kind that like surprises though so maybe its that aspect although Im not actually sure what the 'suprise' is, I think its just what colour you get lol.

Mines asked for a squishy making kit. They sell a couple in smyths so will get one from there. She's been obsessed with them for months. I don't see the appeal but at least a kit will keep her busy slightly longer

angelcake20 · 28/09/2026 18:09

I’ve just bought my 21 year old another one!
