Hello all, and welcome to this lovely space for our continued chats.

A bit of background for anyone not familiar with this topic:

The Nigel Slater Christmas Chronicles readalong usually takes place here on Mumsnet between November and February each year - the Christmas Chronicles being a book written by Nigel Slater full of winter recipes and anecdotes - It has been running for a few years, and the contributors collectively decided it would be nice to have it running all year round.

So here it is. It is a place to appreciate all things Nigel-esque. Think seasonal food and recipes, enjoyment of nature, gardening, appreciation of the weather, and sharing of news and small moments of joy. It's a calm, cosy space for gentle chat and merriment so pull up a chair, grab a drink and relax.

A very hearty welcome to friends new and old!

I long for the dressing gown. It’s currently 28 degrees on the farm, but so humid that it’s like walking through Treacle. It’s energy sapping.

It’s a year since my Dad died today. I thought we had lost all recordings of him in our house fire but my sister sent me one she had of him this morning. It was so nice but so sad to hear his voice. I loved him very much.

That sounds very bittersweet @piscofrisco Sending you gentle hugs my lovely x

Also sending hugs @piscofrisco and hope that your lovely memories carry you through this hard day.

Ah I'm glad you can still hear him @piscofrisco - more hugs from me.

It's not dressing gown weather here - rained overnight but it's just made it very humid.

Had an in-person meeting for work this morning, which is very unusual, but was with my lovely boss so all good. I'm very out of practice at sitting in busy coffee shops though, was quite wobbly. But I had a nice tram journey home and have just made a salad with parma ham, artichokes and a topping thing from a packet which is dried broad beans with a caesar salad sort of flavouring. You can tell the Ocado man came yesterday!

Lots of hugs @piscofrisco xx

Ds is away with his girlfriend, visiting my auntie and also travelling. He is seeing the most spectacular things and I’m so happy for him.

The tarantulas all over the stones after sunset, not so much though!!!

I say! Its raining! I mean, light drizzle but still. dull skies and a comfortable ish temperature. Lovely. I’ve had a slow morning and now up, laundry on, about to make some soup and then a walk into town as I need to purchase some bronzer-mine is down to the metal bit of the pallette. DH is wfh today, unusual for a Wednesday, and whilst I love having him here it’s also regrettable as I was planning an afternoon of binge watching this French programme Ive read about-The Line-about life in Vichy France during the war. When he is here working I feel guilty about loafing around all day. We are going to see The Oddyssey this evening (6pm as anything later and I will be asleep by the end).

where is DS @Bimblesalong? It looks stunning (less the spiders obvs)

martha79 · Today 10:46

Wow, that looks amazing @Bimblesalong

Glad you've got some rain @piscofrisco

Sunny but cooler here. I have broadband again, thanks to the lovely chap who had to do an awful lot of drilling, hammering and climbing out of the window, and was off to do four jobs that involved climbing up poles next... rather him than me!

ElegantDresses · Today 11:59

Cooler and cloudy here, we had a short sharp rain shower about 10 and got all excited but it didn't last.

piscofrisco · Today 12:04

No, nor here. Sun is now blazing and it’s hot again.
