I forgot the red cabbage which was prepared and in the fridge! But to be honest no one missed it, the plates were already overflowing!

reluctantbrit · 26/12/2025 21:40

Not this year but last year I forgot the Pigs in Blanket

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 26/12/2025 21:42

My MIL forgot the stuffing twice (C'mas and B'ing day).

The sacrificial stuffing..

Messingwithmyheadagain · 26/12/2025 21:45

We forgot to prep dessert. Remembered at 9pm!

whiskers72 · 26/12/2025 21:48

I didn’t forget the parsnips but they eneded up so burnt I had to throw them away ( and the pan I cooked them in). Almost missed the stuffing when my son mentioned them when we started eating - they were cooked just didn’t dish out

huuskymam · 26/12/2025 21:51

My Yorkshire puddings were found in the airfryer this morning

clary · 26/12/2025 21:51

I almost forgot the Yorkshires but whisked them out of the oven (luckily just perfectly cooked) just as everyone was dishing up.

I also forgot to get the stuffing out of the chicken but again, remembered in time.

DD is veggie and has a supermarket Christmas veggie dish (her choice) – a couple of years ago I totally forgot to even get it out of the freezer till I was about to serve! Hasty microwaving was called for! So now I write on my list GET IT OUT OF THE FREEZER so I remember.

ViciousCurrentBun · 26/12/2025 21:53

@Blueberrypickle I also forgot the red cabbage, it’s sat there daring me to think of something to do to it.

Zanatdy · 26/12/2025 21:55

My mum often forgets parsnips. I love them, make my own honey roasted ones with carrots

TheChosenTwo · 26/12/2025 21:55

Nothing actually forgotten but just as we were serving up I asked dh where the horseradish was and he hadn’t made it yet! Dc1 and I finished getting the serving dishes loaded up and to the table while he grated and made it 😂 it was close but only about 4 out of the 24 people at the table like it so it wouldn’t have been a problem if we’d not done it.
There would have been rioting if we’d forgotten pigs, parsnips or Yorkshires though!!

Same- I woke up bolt upright in bed at 4am this morning and remembered!

@TheChosenTwo 24 people! Now do tell me this – how does it work with saucepans? I ask bc my biggest pan was only just big enough to parboil the roasties, and the same pan was pretty full of carrots – for six of us. Tbf we did have way too many roasties but not so much with the carrots, there were plenty but not a mad amount.

Do you have many enormous saucepans or do you just figure ppl will be more modest as there are 24 of you? Also – one big turkey? how many pigs in blankets?

And finally - did anyone else get through an inordinate number of tea towels? I guess they were covering pre-prepped items (I was prepping over several days as I was working on Chr eve morning) and also DH kicked over his wine early doors, I spilled draining water more than once but still. I did a tea-towel wash this morning for about a dozen.

I forgot to make Yorkshire puddings…. Whoopsie.

You. Did. Not. 😱 Go to the bottom of the class! How you can call yourself a proper family member, after failing so drastically? I hope you're proud of yourself.

🤣

I forgot to heat up the red cabbage that my sister had made in advance. She left the table halfway through the meal to find it! It was delicious and I was glad she went to retrieve it as I’d have felt awfully guilty not serving it!
Last year I found the cauliflower cheese staying cool in my office long after the meal had been eaten 😆

There is LITERALLY no excuse for that! You should be banned from Christmas for the next five years!

Five Decembers preparing Yorkies in a prison kitchen for you! Then you might be allowed to rejoin society at Christmas.

😆

It's only red cabbage. Who cares about that? It's no forgetting-the-Yorkies, is it?

I love burnt parsnips, they are my favourite part!

Yes, I know that’s a bit weird!

It's Boxing Day evening and we had all totally forgotten about the red cabbage until I came across it put away neatly in the cupboard tonight still in the pot it was made in. Obviously someone very helpfully put the pot away after the washing up yesterday without checking the pot was empty. It seriously wasn't missed!

NerrSnerr · 26/12/2025 22:41

Until this thread I had forgotten that parsnips are traditionally on a Christmas dinner. I don’t think I have ever had a roast with red cabbage. Might have to try that. I‘m the only vegetarian in my family and I forgot to buy myself something for my own dinner.

DressOrSkirt · 26/12/2025 23:00

Not this year but a couple of years ago the brussel sprouts disappeared out of my hands...I found (smelt) them a few days later on a shelf in the kitchen. I'm sure I've forgotten things most years but that one stands out to me because they showed up again.

Lidlisthebusiness · 27/12/2025 10:50

I forgot to buy myself anything to eat. I'm the only one who's gluten free and vegetarian, I had the veg and yorkshires but I have that every week on a Sunday and I'd totally forgotten to get myself anything remotely special to eat!
