So proud of DS8. They had a “Christmas shop” at school where he could chose his own presents to gift to people. He bought DH a Christmas travel mug as he uses one every morning for his coffee and DH loves Christmas. He bought his Grandpa a little golf game as he loves golf. And he bought me a travel make up brush. I’m so proud of him that he actually thought about each gift of what we would like. Yes they all cost £3 or less, but it’s so thoughtful. And he make me a little Lego scene with a heart made out of Lego and 2 Lego people. Things like that are worth more to me than expensive gifts. 🩷

That’s so sweet! I don’t have DC but my DNephews (ages 2 and 7) both chose some Lovisa sparkly earrings and cat magnetic bookmarks and a Tu scarf hat combo.

I recall when I was younger making coasters for my relatives and I sewed my nana a little wash bag which she loved.

That’s so lovely. 😍😍

Single parent here. Bought my
own presents and wrapped them. Best one was a squishmallow after I bought them for each of my kids and got jealous and bought one for myself too. I think they were everyone’s fave present 😁

Exactly. I love those little handmade things. So many posts on MN about not getting anything fancy. But I couldn’t care about money, as long as it’s thoughtful, it could cost 50p and I wouldn’t care.

DD1 (6) wanted to get DD2 (almost 4) a little cuddly toy puppy, similar but not identical to one DD1 owns. We absolutely do not need any more cuddly toys, but it was all her own idea, so a little brown curly-haired dog with posable legs was carefully chosen. DD2 has carried it around with her all day, sat it at the table with us, and gone to sleep with it tonight.

So sweet! And puts paid to the multiple comments every year on threads where someone has a useless partner about ‘males are just bad at gift giving.’

My two sons got me beautiful earrings and a bracelet they had chosen and they were so so proud to show me what they had picked out and my 6yr old was so happy explaining why he had chosen that specific bracelet with the particular colours. Their Dad of course was the one that took them shopping but I also take them shopping for each other and for the Grandparents and my partner and so they genuinely enjoy and love picking out special gifts for others. It really is the thought that counts isn’t it! (And dare I say it mine both under 10 typically pick gifts I like better than their Dads picks usually 😅 they must have similar taste to me!)

I use my child’s squishmallow all the time, it’s so cosy! I just got another for my other child…which is definitely also for me too 😅

I’ve been a single parent for over a decade. My older children are now adults and I think I ended up getting the most gifts and all of them were lovely. Single parenthood does reap its own rewards in time 😍.

My children’s school also do a Xmas shop and my two 4 year olds bought a lovely gift each for me 😍

My ds is train mad and loves purple.

I found a purple t shirt that says “Easily distracted by trains” on it. It was the gift I was most excited to give and he loved it.

My favourite gift was books from my favourite author. My Dro and SIL always say it’s not much (I ask for books) but the joy it gives me knowing I can sit and read and have me time matters so much. As you say it’s not the money but getting someone of value to you.

another favourite gift is from a friend/ colleague who knows I’m always baffled by my ability to lose pens and she brought me a set of pens in my favourite colour scheme with proper clips to connect to my notebook which just shows she listens to me.
