Domestic Abuse at Christmas

There's a thing called Operation Encompass. It's a system by which the police alert the school a child attends when they have attended an incident of domestic abuse in the home of a child. Schools don't talk to the children/family directly about this, but use the knowledge to offer additional support to the child/family.

I'm a DSL. I've just had an Operation Encompass for one of our students, incident early hours of this morning. This prompted this thread.

Alcohol and stress both fuel an increase in violence in the home at this time of year. There is help

Stay safe.

Living in a home with domestic abuse, even if the children are not physically harmed, is in itself abuse. Prioritise keeping your children safe and get some support in leaving.

If you can't talk to anyone else, you can talk to school. They will already know, they are just waiting for you to reach out for help.

Thank you for posting.
Abuse affects children so badly. Christmas it often gets worse. Poor children.

My father was a violent alcoholic. He never laid a finger on me but was very heavy handed with my mum. He’d be pissed all over Christmas but my mum would just about keep
him pacified. By New year tho’ it was all kicking off.

I remember as a child just wanting to be somewhere that felt stable and safe. Don’t keep your children in these environments for fucks sake. Grow up and put them first.

I’d like to get this link shared over the Christmas break. It all ramps up over Christmas, it’s awful.
